It's important to understand that the organizing principle of NATO was that the US would come to the aid of NATO allies.

The value for the US is that it is critical to have allies between us and a hostile foreign power to ensure that we never are directly attacked.
FWIW, the one and only time Article 5 has formally been invoked was following 9/11 -- by NATO and on behalf of the United States, without it having to make any request.
Trump: "The big fear I have with NATO is we spend tremendous amounts of money with NATO and I know we'll come to their rescue, but I just really do question whether or not they'll come to ours. Just saying."

There were only 226 homicides in LA last year. The homicide rate of 5.9 victims per 100,000 residents marked the lowest since 1959 when it was 5.5.

“However, there were 47 officer-involved shootings in the city in 2025 compared to 29 the prior year, an increase of 62%.”

By the way they put out the cell phone video that the shooter was holding WHILE he shot her, because they know it’s incriminating and they think they can control the narrative by releasing it and saying “it proves our side.”

A very important thread about why charges against the ICE agent must be planned and meticulously executed. It will take time.

It's also going to be very difficult. No one should expect a guilty verdict. But it is important to do this, so that every effort is made to bring justice to this matter.
Here’s a comment for the people who are upset that MN hasn’t charged Jonathan Ross already:

If you just Leeeroy Jenkins this shit you will lose and you will empower fascism and murder.

It is indescribably hard to prosecute cops for murder. It is even hard when the murder is ON VIDEO.

True; but don't forget that 25 years ago Thomas and 4 compatriots issued a ruling so contrary to equal protection that it's never been applied since; then made up state law in contravention of that state's court, to install their preferred candidate.

The Court's been corrupted for a while.
Samuel Alito flew two flags used by insurrectionists.

Clarence Thomas' wife plotted to overturn the 2020 election.

Both justices refused to recuse themselves from SCOTUS cases related to the January 6th plot.

It's a stain on our nation that this has effectively been forgotten.

Brilliant work by the GOP here:

"mail sent in rural areas will be postmarked and delivered at least one day later than before. And for mail voters, submitting their ballots the day or two before Election Day could mean it arrives too late to be counted . . . ."

Trump won the rural vote 62-36.
The United States Postal Service (USPS) finalized a rule on postmarks to reflect changes in its mail pickup processes that could cause an uptick in blown deadlines for documents sent by post, including mail-in ballots. www.democracydocket.com/news-alerts/...

WTF did they think was coming?

This is like the MOCs who appeared on Colbert's "Better Know a District" and were surprised about it. Except that Vanity Fair has been around for 40 years and you should know what you're going to get.

It's a minor thing in light of everything, but as people note Rob Reiner's movies, it should not be lost that his company Castle Rock produced Seinfeld. Before it was the biggest sitcom ever, it was struggling in the ratings and in danger of cancellation, and Reiner helped champion to keep it on.

If you subtract immigration out of agriculture, our agricultural production plummets.

If you subtract immigration out of labor, our manufacturing and service sector plummets.

If you subtract immigration out of medicine, our health care results and service plummets.

etc., etc.

With the Dodgers signing Diaz, there are 2 possibilities:

(1) the Dodgers are done with FAs for the year; or

(2) the Dodgers are going to sign Tucker or Bellinger, a top tier starter (maybe Imai), maybe Bichette, and another reliever, to get everything before the CBA expires ( i.e. #SpendItNow).

He's obviously a moron.

It's not the second strike that's the problem.

(At least not the only problem.)
The boat strikes are illegal. Dope couriers are not military combatants. So killing them with air strikes instead of arresting them is murder. It’s that simple.

Absolute incompetence by Chuck Schumer. I’m as moderate/establishment as it gets, but I’m begging @aoc.bsky.social to announce her primary challenge ASAP.
-Oct 18, more than 7 million Americans stand up and stand together.

-Nov 4, millions of Dems turn out for landslide wins in VA, NJ, NY, CA, GA, many other places.

-Nov 9, eight "Dems" say "Oh, this nice Mike Johnson and Mr. Trump say they care about health. If they don't, well shame on them..."

"In 2024, death-sentenced prisoners asked the Court to review constitutional claims in their cases or grant a stay of execution 148 times. The Court agreed just three times, twice in the same case."

But if it will save 16 million kids from starving, then make sure to issue that stay.
This is actually a pretty standard and unremarkable move, as evidenced by Justice Jackson issuing it.

But most people won't believe that for several good reasons.

#BREAKING: Justice Jackson has issued an "administrative" stay, temporarily pausing a district court order that would've required the USDA to continue using contingency funds to pay SNAP benefits.

The stay expires 48 hours after the First Circuit rules on USDA's request for a stay pending appeal.
