I put my new comic up on itch! $8 for a 34-page horror story!

On Halloween night in 1994, two teenagers and their bully walk into a stranger's basement, and discover an uncomfortable secret about a girl they know.

I dunno why that would be an issue. If you're new to a platform, it's going to take a while to integrate it.

Plus, Bluesky doesn't feed you content the same way Twitter did, so it takes a little more of a conscious effort to establish. That's just the nature of it.

After two days of hours-long post-storm shoveling, today I am leaving my driveway shamefully unshovelled. All the neighbors will see how I forfeit my place in Canadian Valhalla.

I’m 175 pages in on a hockey romance and thus far it’s been entirely about HOCKEY.

I can think of no message that is less Star Trek than that.

Yep. I was stoked for Discovery. Knew something was off by episode 3. Almost a hate watch then.

Heard season 2 was better. Nope.

Watch S1 of Picard. Awful.

Oh, you gotta try BNW: Despise it.

It's a Star Trek brand w/ badly written SF under the hood, from the writers of Lost and Batman & Robin.

1000%

Problem is, it feels like criticism of Nu Trek is being overly criticized, even weaponized, for advertising ... but if I like a thing and then someone changes everything about the thing that I liked, I'm allowed to not like it now.

Same way new fans are allowed to like it -- but I'm out.

Still having an existential crisis from talking on Steam Chat for two hours last night with a weird reverb when I spoke so I had to repeatedly hear what my real voice sounded like.

One of my beta readers keeps flagging dialogue, like "Why are his words backwards? Who talks like this?"

And I'm like, "I dunno, b'y. I'll get right to fixin' 'er now in a once."

Yesterday, I made the best tea I'll ever make. I wish I watched what I was doing, but I make two a day & it was just another tea. As soon as I tasted it, I knew it was the Platonic ideal of tea & I'd never do better.

My missus says I can't think this way, but I know it's all downhill from here.

2. In one weekend, got recommended to ~10,000 readers.

I didn't see a single sale, because I don't write the UP or dark fantasy work my clients' readers wanted.

Lesson learned. Audience is absolutely everything.

1. New authors spamming #books and #queries don't make sense. Audience is everything.

When I published my first #fantasy book, I had three best-selling Urban Paranormal / dark fantasy clients offer to give me shout-outs in their newsletters. Of course I said yes. That's amazing...

It was two years ago today I published the first in my Leguin-inspired Speaker Origins #fantasy series. Looking back on it now, about to publish a standalone & write the third in this series, it seems mad that I was so anxious at the time.

We also never address other root problems:

1: AirBnbs
2: CFA landlords buying houses here to rent as it's too expensive in ON now. Or using them as vacation homes.
3: Companies buying up houses and renting them.
