Hoo boy, writing the "*pushes sleeves back* 'Time for some straight talk'" email with a potential editing client about their expectations, that can take a while to write, and be pretty draining.

So I wrote to Amazon KDP & I told them I had a problem. The numbers on my book sale page will sometimes go up & then stop. They're supposed to keep going up. They told me to get in touch with some guy named "Mark Keeting" or somebody. Is he some kinda number guru? DAE?

Something I do wish non-historians would internalise is that (modern) historians are not (generally) just making shit up. We do in fact have sources and evidence and proof of things which have happened in the past

Working on a corollary, or like ... a natural law of freelance #editing. Maybe call it the "Inverse Email Rule," or "Exponential Query Conundrum..."

Something like "The shorter the query email, the longer, more detailed the required response..."

Went to the kitchen to get my smol cat friend her midnight snack, but my missus @jcparsons.bsky.social was having a dance party & making late, late supper, & I always scare the bejesus outta her when she has her earbuds in, & it looked like a really jammin' dance party, so sorry, kitty, food soon...

I'm begging the manufacturer of my cat's favorite treats to improve the ziplock seal on their bags. I feel like I'm failing some kinda high-stress intelligence test while I'm standing there crinkling the bag, struggling to get it closed, and she's big-eyed staring at me.

I think that before you're done your book, you should do a "confidence" pass, where you delete extraneous "thats," & "thens" & "ands" from the starts of sentences where they're only a crutch. Maybe even throw in a few semi-colons in place of a handful of safe "becauses." You can do it.

Halifax, Nova Scotia DM if any would like to buy a signed print copy of Fantasy Tales. I'm doing meet ups this weekend to connect with readers. How better for others to question sanity when they see us making not secret ways to find a home for my book in parking lots. lol

Shipping avail too. DM me.

Everyone loves conjuring up ideas for a new book, putting it all together, & I do too of course, but I also love one of the last steps, doing a bit of research, adding color, upping the special effects budget, & really tying little details together & making things pop.

I quite liked the word "noontide" in my book set in the medieval era. A little color. But ... for consistency I feel like I'd have to go through & substitute like twenty instances of "eventide" & "morningtide," which ... nope. Feels like going from a tip of the hat to the era to donning a fedora.

If you're a politician voting against abolishing Daylight Savings Time, you should be required to come to my house every day for two weeks afterward & spend an hour in the morning & an hour at night explaining to my disappointed smol friend that she's wrong, she can't eat right now.
