🇪🇺President Von der Leyen has decided - the EU's first reaction to Trump's threatening letter is (for now) surrender.

Tariffs should protect workers, not billionaires. Trump’s last tariff scheme was full of special favors for his allies (including a Russian oligarch close to Putin).

If we are to succeed in the transition to sustainable #FoodSystems, we need policy coherence. For once, #EUTradePolicy must be brought in line with #EUGreenDeal. This was the joint message of @beuc.bsky.social and COPA COGECA this morning about the EU-#Mercosur trade deal 👇
It's not everyday that BEUC and COPA-COGECA get together: the EU-Mercosur deal fails both consumers and farmers on sustainability goals. It's time to apply the same rules to imported food as what is produced in the EU.
