This is disappointing! The North-East produces exceptional research! I’ve had the privilege of working alongside world leaders in Lewy body dementia at Newcastle University. Transparency as to how these institutions were selected is definately needed!
The Global Talent Fund excludes the North—despite our world-class institutions.

I’ve asked the Science Minister why no region north of Birmingham was prioritised and why the selection process he set out to me wasn't evidence, geography or policy based: committees.parliament.uk/committee/13...

Excellent showcase of the research in the ARUK Northern networks! Had a great day!
Had a great (and very warm) day on Monday hosting the @alzheimersresearchuk.org Northern Alliance Day here is Sheffield! Well done to all the presenters and it was great to meet new dementia researchers from across the North! Thank you to the Readable Research and CognoSpeak teams for the workshops!

I feel seen as an ECR dependant on grant funding for continued employment. Some excellent points raised in this blog, and interesting discussion about how research grants are funded. Very much worth a read.

Anyone else do a little dance when the student assignment you are marking hits all of the things you outlined in the brief and more? Maybe it’s just me 🤓

Great paper suggesting a relationship between asyn and nuclear DNA damage. It was a pleasure to contribute a small amount towards this work
New paper "supports the hypothesis of a reciprocal relationship between aSyn pathology & nuclear DNA damage & highlights a potential underlying role for DNA damage in pathological mechanisms relevant to dementia with Lewy body"

We set aside 20min in class for a Q&A on funding a lab, federal funding, IDCs, and ongoing policy shifts. Was definitely not enough time. Such great and insightful questions

Probably could have taken the whole class

Anyway. 10/10 would recommend
