Vanity Fair's West Coast Editor Olivia Nuzzi was a star political correspondent until scandal led her into exile—and to a California up in flames.

In an excerpt from her book, ‘American Canto,’ she takes stock of scorched earth.

I'd like a beaker of sweet cider and a big pastie, a shrimp one; after that I think I'd go for a piece of hot preserved plum crumble, with sweet nutmeg cream poured all over it.

I know the conventions are what they are but I think this is actually what you would call "answering" a question rather than "raising" one
Just in: Jeffrey Epstein said that Donald Trump 'spent hours at my house' with a woman later identified as a victim of sex trafficking, according to emails that raise fresh questions about the relationship between the late paedophile and the US president on.ft.com/3LXOdTm

Some of us think there is nothing cooler than a muddy guy with a musket. russet coated captains, things of that nature
its so fucking funny to me how no one on earth cares about like early modern europe, and its entirely because the aesthetic is too shite. everyone knows what a roman or a napoleonic soldier looks like but then you get to idk the german confessional period and everyones a muddy guy with a musket

JUSTIN TRUDEAU: You know, I was something of a "dark horse" myself when I led the Liberal Party of Canada to a dramatic come-from-behind victory in 2015 over Stephen Harper's Conservatives and Tom Mulcair's NDP, forming the first Liberal majority government since 2000

I don't understand why people indulge themselves in this. It's not funny. It's not cute. It obviously helps normalize the idea. So much damage has been done by media people wanting to feel a little frisson of naughtiness over the last decade.

Interesting Ottawa thought exercise - Jim Watson loved parts of the job (the parts where he wasn't being criticized for making decisions), Mark Sutcliffe seems to me to be very checked out
An important point I've had to raise with a surprising number of people. One of the biggest drivers of success or failure for a mayoralty is whether the person actually wants to be Mayor, or just wants a title or something to run for. It's "the second toughest job" in politics. Not for tourists.
Andrew Cuomo is a bad man pulling on a dangerous thread because he wants to win a job he doesn’t actually want to do in a place he hates

There is nothing like sticking your head under the bath tap and blasting it with cold water on a hot day. being bald rocks
I legitimately think that if there was an inexpensive pill you could take with zero side effects that totally reversed male pattern baldness, I'd still keep shaving my head bald.

It's just a lot less hassle.
