I wrote a little book, pals. 'SOFIA COPPOLA: The Complete Unofficial Guide' is out today from @quercusbooks.bsky.social/ Greenfinch and in all good bookstores. I loved delving into Sofia's prettified & melancholy worlds. Link here: www.waterstones.com/book/sofia-c...

I had a brilliant conversation with Marc and Seth on @unwatchables.bsky.social about two very nasty Aussie films 🇦🇺 A perverse pleasure!!
Today UNWATCHABLES goes Down Under for two grim Australian thrillers with the help of film critic @lauravenning.bsky.social We discuss Ted Kotcheff's 1971 psychological thriller WAKE IN FRIGHT, and Jennifer Kent's 2018 revenge Western THE NIGHTINGALE.

I’ll never forget going to Fopp to ask if they had the second sight special edition of The Babadook behind the till and made the mistake of mentioning to the guy that I’d contributed an essay to it only to be met with a stony-faced “does anyone actually read those” 💀

100 Nights of Hero – first-look review
Julia Jackman's adaptation of Isabel Greenberg's graphic novel is a charming, ambitious queer fantasy.

A shame what's going on in cultural journalism right now. Too many of us have lost jobs at a time when this work is desperately needed. Without it, the less curious people will become, and the less motivated they will be to challenge the culture they're consuming. That could be by design right now.

I think Greta Gerwig's Little Women script is a pretty miraculous work of adaptation
in your opinion, completely subjective, no metrics and no judgment, what are the best written movies of all time? I don't care if you have never seen a screenplay in your life, just which story itself is the most moving and complete and perfect to you?
