History addict, often disappearing down rabbit holes.
Expert procrastinator.
Sometimes in life those quiet moments bring the most unexpected joys. Having had a great day at Chalke History Festival, I was just stood outside my tent enjoying the stillness, and spent a few minutes watching A rabbit hopping between the tents 😆

At 0730 on 6 June 1944 men of 1 DORSET were amongst the first British troops to hit the beaches.

Remembering all those men who risked, and in some cases sacrificed, everything to bring freedom to Europe on the beaches of Normandy 81 years ago today.

Something about this property appeals to me. Yes, it has fantastic sea views, but it's not that. Perhaps it's something to do with the unique garden feature of "a stone entrance leading to three layers of tunnels steeped in history and charm"!!!

Hey @thehistoryguy.bsky.social I'm FINALLY visiting Portsmouth Historic Dockyard for the first time tomorrow (7 May = 260 years since Victory was launched, and 50 years since I was). Any hidden gems that most people miss that I should look out for while I'm there?

25 years ago, I lived in Portsmouth, less than a mile from Portsmouth Historic Dockyard (which I never got around to visiting). Next week, on what is both my 50th birthday and the 260th anniversary of HMS Victory's launch, I'm finally going to make that long-overdue visit! 😀

The cost of reaching net zero in the UK by 2050 is now predicted to be just 0.2% of GDP (about £4 billion per year).

Spread this far and wide. It reveals Reform and the Conservatives' opposition to net zero for being 'too expensive' as just plain wrong.

A pair of trousers/pants recently found in the attic of the Auschwitz camp commandant.

Inmates wore these striped uniforms in summer and in subzero winter temperatures. The waist was tightened with extra cords- so much weight had the inmate lost.

Can confirm we will be renaming everything in the #Museum based on what we would like it to be called rather than what it is called.

This may take us a few weeks so please be patient

Happy Winter Solstice!

These photos were taken with a pinhole camera I made from a beer can and left out from Summer to Winter Solstice - a 6 month exposure.

Bottom line = Winter Solstice. Top line = Summer Solstice.

The lines are the Sun moving across the sky w/some reflections. No line = clouds

Hello! I've finally found my way here thanks to @awdorset.bsky.social
Will be slowly finding my way around in between naps (currently fighting seasonal lurgy and laryngitis) and patiently waiting for my PC (which is being incredibly slow today) to catch up.
