Took a walk this afternoon. Most of the leaves are now on the ground so it’s really starting to feel like winter. Then I spotted this bush with two blooms holding out against the weather.

I tried to stick a fish in my one-year-old’s ear. Unfortunately it did not aid communication.

Even though I have not read all of my books, I bought more books: The never-ending story.

I once tried to describe “The City We Became” to someone from Staten Island and they immediately got super defensive. 👀
Apparently all you needed to do to predict the NYC election results was read that one N.K. Jemisin novel.

When I was a kid I assumed voting was something that all adults did. I voted in my first election at 18 and proudly wore my “I Voted” sticker to the work that afternoon. My boss had no idea there was even an election that day. That’s when I learned that too many people don’t know/bother/care. (1/4)

I just noticed that the nurse gave me a My Little Pony bandaid when I got my Covid booster this morning. I knew I liked her.

A pretty good month for reading! 4 audiobooks, 3 ebooks, 3 re-reads, all library loans. I loved The Incandescent and I’m happy I finally got around to trying Sanderson. #reading #booksky #books

There’s a tween trick or treating as Chappel Roan and she looks amazing.

There are also two dads dressed as Abby on our street.

Thank you to everyone who turned out today, in some fashion.

“And remember this: the Imperial need for control is so desperate because it is so unnatural. Tyranny requires constant effort. It breaks, it leaks. Authority is brittle. Oppression is the mask of fear.”

Ultimately, the death of US manufacturing is about this attitude. It's easy to say "buy american or stfu" because virtue signaling is free. But it's hard to actually sustain a business because many Americans simply don't want to pay what it costs to produce things ethically in this country

I love it when I start a new book and within a page the author‘s writing has me thinking “oh, this is going to be FUN”.

I’m mostly offline these days…maybe that’s why I’ve been able to read more? 8 books in September, 4 audiobooks, 3 ebooks, 1 paperback, 6 library loans, 1 re-read. Highly recommend Bury Our Bones. #books #booksky #reading

Trivia tonight had an entire category of everyday Latin phrases.

Pour a little out for Magistra Gushman. I hope I made her proud.

I don't really do Spring Cleaning, but when the weather turns cool enough to turn off the A/C and open all the windows I'm filled with the desire to make things fresh and clean again.

Today, that means the neighborhood gets to listen to my German pagan folk music.

Other birthday weekend highlights include a trip to the bookstore, Indian take out, chocolate cake, movie night, kendo practice, and an afternoon nap. All in all, lowkey but pretty damn good.
I donated blood today for the first time ever. Tomorrow is my birthday and I wanted to celebrate by paying it forward in thanks to the unknown donors who saved my life last November after giving birth.

I’m late with my August wrap-up, but it was a pretty disappointing month for reading. 2 audiobooks, 1 ebook, 1 re-read, 2 library loans. Cannot really recommend either of the new books I read this month. #booksky #books #reading

According to Dragon Con, 110 students followed me out of the classroom today to sing in Ghor in the halls. Goosebumps!

I hope some of these wonderful beings see this.

It’ll probably be a couple weeks until I’m caught up on #strangenewworlds, but the bottom line is that #StarTrek should not cause harm. If part of our community says it is doing just that, then we should take the time to listen and learn.
Received many DMs asking me about this week’s #strangenewworlds episode and why I won’t be reviewing it with @strangenewpod.com - here’s the short (and the long?) answer 🖖🏾
