We solved so many problems so well that most people don’t know that they were ever problems, and so their base assumption is that this is the natural order of the world when it’s actually a fragile system held up by an expansive administrative state…which millions just voted to dismantle.
"We have a mandate to dismantle the regulatory state - and both the power and the will to do so,"

Is explicitly what they ran on and enough of the US has just always had clean water and safe food and some manor of workplace protection that they categorically do not understand what a threat that is.
I really think most people don't appreciate the scale of what's coming.

No electoral strategy should leave disabled Canadians people behind and I am a big advocate for UBI now. There is no economic argument against it we throw that kind of money at O&G, monthly. The provinces cannot be trusted and people need a leg up.

Compared to 2020, Trump’s coalition was “older, wealthier, and about equally white.”

And yet, conventional wisdom is quickly coalescing around ideas of a working-class revolution, racial realignment, and young men’s “crisis of masculinity.”

The punditry doesn’t care about what really happened.
For all of the assessments of Trump's coalition based on exit polls, here's what they also say: his voting base was older, wealthier and about equally White to what it was in 2020. www.washingtonpost.com/politics/202...
Column | Trump’s 2024 coalition looks a lot like his 2020 coalition
The president-elect and his supporters are eager to present him as the choice of a diverse array of Americans.

your school boards and community boards need you. they’ve been getting pummeled by qanon/antivax/transphobic conspiracy theorists.
Going to reiterate that everyone on this website should run for something. Tree warden, Senator, horse catcher, whatever. The Democratic Party is currently screaming at each other about precisely how much more racist and transphobic they should get. Sneak past them, primary an old guy, take control.

NPR casting Trump as a normal president and normal Republican about to start a normal second term for a Republican president is a bad sign.

All those previous Republicans were reelected right after their first term, and hadn’t conspired to overthrow the Constitution.

The past isn’t precedent here.

The lessons of history about second-term presidents and second-term Republicans in particular are not just the stuff of textbooks. They can offer guidance and perhaps even temper expectations.
The story of White House 'trophy terms' offers a cautionary tale
