Threats against Iran aren’t “last resort” diplomacy, they’re a breach of the UN Charter, Jeffrey Sachs argues, & a dangerous escalation away from negotiations that already worked. The Security Council should defend international law & push talks—not war.
No US War on Iran: An Open Letter to the UN Security Council
The current threat of an attack by the US did not begin with any failure by Iran to negotiate. On the contrary, it began with the United States’ repudiation of negotiations that had already succeeded.

After democrats' stunning off-year election wins last November, I wrote this piece. I'm more convinced now than I was then that Nov 2025 was a Saratoga moment of victory after a year of preparation, organizing and activating.

There will almost certainly be an election in November, although the republiscum are trying to steal it. But if someone's going around trying to convince you there definitely won't be a fair election, they don't want you to vote. They're either a right-wing troll or a "useful idiot."
if i want water from the sink, i have to turn on the faucet. if i want to ride my bike, i have to pedal and engage the gears. there is a mechanism. my point is that there is no *mechanism* by which elections can be canceled. it's not about norms, it is about how things work.

Any "property damage" occurring during a peaceful protest is 100% committed by provacateurs, easily identified by black clothing and surreptitious creeping around the edges of any gathering. Ferguson was a visual training to anyone who watched and observed.

Please read what Chenoweth and Maria Stephan actually found, because it actually underpins my criticism of Indivisible. They're not demanding an end to the regime (and are in fact co-opting and watering down those demands). They're not varying tactics enough. Etc.

What is the Christiana Riot?

Occurring in 1851 in Christina, PA, it was the successful armed resistance by free Blacks & escaped slaves against a federal marshal's attempt to recover escaped slaves.

It serves as a powerful example of community solidarity.

my takeaways reading about a bunch of horrific shit in history is that the things you want are:
-to have hiding spaces
-to not let the state disarm you (small arms genuinely matter even when artillery exists)
-to maintain access the means of communication
-to build diplomatic ties with outsiders

Boycott. General strike. Bring the economy to a grinding halt and keep it there for weeks. Months if necessary. That will have a fast, tangible impact.

And this is the goal: help people get their foot in the door and take those first small steps. Help them build their courage with small acts of resistance, fold them into the community and help them level up to bigger more disruptive actions. That's how we wage a successful anti-coup.
