Bennet said today that the Trump administration's move to dismantle the climate/weather lab is retaliation for Tina Peters' imprisonment.

😱 those gusts at the NCAR Mesa Lab! Meanwhile on the tabular display, a wind speed/gusts of "nan m/s" can never be a good thing. Not sure if that's related to the peak gusts ~90 mph.

In case you want to share with your networks, this is a good article by the NYT on the broad scope of work done by NCAR and some of the key discoveries (e.g., microbursts and aviation accidents).
The Trump administration said it will be dismantling the National Center for Atmospheric Research in Colorado, one of the world’s leading Earth science research institutions.

Russell Vought, the White House budget director, called the laboratory a source of “climate alarmism.”

Based on what I have been hearing about the NCAR situation, no one knew anything until the USA Today article came out. That means there isn’t much actual organization inside the administration to pull this off and a chance to fight back. Call your congresspeople today! Especially republicans.
December 17, 2025 at 3:28 PM
From the article:
Fitzpatrick said his hand was forced by the refusal of Republican leadership to “compromise” after he attempted “for months” to offer ideas and amendments.
“House leadership then decided to reject every single one of these amendments,” Fitzpatrick said in a statement.

They’ve been saying this for 10 years, but have not once presented any plans, thoughts, or concepts as to how.
MIKE JOHNSON: Here's the false narrative -- Democrats are pretending as though this affects everybody in the country. It affects 7% of Americans, this extended subsidy

CNBC: But we are talking 22 to 24 million Americans

So tired of the whining and moaning related to who’s in the #CFP.
I remember when only 2 teams had a shot at the championship.

My take? You want in, THEN WIN!

P5 teams with 0-1 losses 👉 IN
Win your conference 👉 IN
2 loses 👉 You’re not entitled to jack
3 loses 👉 Sit down & STFU

Problem solved.

After 7 years of forecasting in GA, can absolutely confirm.
Data shows there’s less snowfall in the last half decade than there used to be — particularly in the central and eastern U.S.

See how snowfall is changing across the country and find out if this winter will be snowy for you here:

Swaths of central and eastern states have received much less snow than average over the past five winters – a trend that may continue this season.

A lot harder to have a “Group of Death” when the field expands by 50%. Rankings of 3, 19, 29, and prob IRQ/BOL isn’t crazy. Group L at least has 2 teams in top 10 of FIFA rankings.

All I know is USA 🇺🇸 got a great draw with a good shot to top Group D!
From @theathleticfc.bsky.social: The Group of Death is a tradition at the World Cup. Without fail, each tournament yields one.

Earlier today, I read that economists were saying the AI boom is the only thing holding up the American economy.
Lovely combination we have here.
There's been endless talk about an AI bubble, but less about exactly how, why, and how much it's a bubble. So I turned to the framework put forward by scholars Brent Goldfarb and David A. Kirsch, authors of "Bubbles and Crashes," for assessing tech bubbles.

Spoiler: On a scale of 1 to 8, AI is an 8

I talked to the scholars who literally wrote the book on tech bubbles—and applied their test.
