The conundrum with Douthat is that a representation of the MAGA philosophy is newsworthy as long as Trump occupies an outsized role in the govt. But if that philosophy is represented truthfully, it literally isn't fit to print.

The Republican challengers in NJ and VA had conventional resumes, and made no obvious tactical errors, but whatever helps the big guy sleep, I guess.

I would love for it to be a third-rail rule that if you fantasize about or make light of violence against your opponents, your political career is over. But since there clearly is no such rule, I am frankly glad that a Democrat has gotten away with flouting it as many elected Republicans have.
