everybody reacts to C-PTSD differently but it has taken me years to be able to read fiction again

after so much time of folks screaming at you that you're hallucinating if you have a dream or aspiration it takes a bit to imagine again

I taught a class on “hope” last year and the few theorists who’ve written on it all point out that hope is the harder choice - that despair is easy and too often fashionable
Too many people on Bluesky think that relentless expressions of despair are a sign of intellectual sophistication.

this is sad as hell

the CIA World Factbook has long been one of my favorite parts of the Internet, since back in undergrad working late into the night at the library and learning about geography

Spotlighting The World Factbook as We Bid a Fond Farewell
Somewhat devastating news today from the CIA: One of CIA’s oldest and most recognizable intelligence publications, The World Factbook, has sunset. There's not even a hint as to why they …

TIL about the Hollow Nickel Case, in which a Soviet spy accidentally spent a nickel-shaped container containing a coded KGB message on microfilm, a paperboy discovered it collecting on his route, it made it to the FBI, and thanks to a defecting KGB agent they were able to put another spy in jail.

yeah ngl laying off a warzone reporter without even bringing them home first is a new kind of shitty
A publisher who lays off a reporter whose pen is freezing because she's covering a frigid war zone while dodging missiles is not an editor you want to work for, in a more perfect world
