Maybe it’s just the Humanities professor in me, but let it be noted that events of today (ahem) have demonstrated the value of being able to assess a large volume of qualitative data and do careful textual analysis with deep attention to context.

i mean c’mon. the president’s best friend was the most notorious pedo in the country’s history who ran a massive child trafficking ring. every bit of circumstantial evidence we have says that trump was a participant. if this were a criminal trial we’d have enough evidence to compel a plea deal.

This whole thread. But also I've attended a few talks now in library contexts where LLMs are little better than the "Step 3: ???" of the old meme. It really is time to ask the hard questions about what it contributes and press on why that tool was chosen.
When you are using the "AI" framing, does the way you talk about "AI" carry water for the Sam Altmans of the world? That is, are you helping to paint a picture of their tech as inevitable, all powerful, and/or anything other than commercial products?

I was losing my mind over identifying a keyboard part that had been stuck in my head for two days. I finally pulled out the baby keys to play it for T and he got it in under a minute.
