This, but for other creative work, like writing and editing.
Trying to measure coding productivity is, and always will be, a fool's errand.

Why? Because I can go for a walk then take a shower and have an idea, then write a single line of code that fixes everything I was working on.

Immense productivity, but by most metrics I didn't do anything at all.

Specifically the interaction with the cultural fund destroys trust: with players, with government orgs, with communities, and partners. Trust like that isn’t easily rebuilt. If you farm out a cultural touchstone to machines, what are you saying about the people who play your games?
Vote with your wallet. Send the message that this is simply unacceptable. And I hope the German government rakes them over the coals for taking 6M Euros from a cultural fund and then using AI localization.

It’s one Eff You after another to players and now cultural institutions.

we don't just need to be funding small studios to make one game, we need to be funding them to make the ones they can fuck up before they can make the ones they learn from.
The winner takes all-instant hit-meme-flywheel mentality that has completely overtaken the games industry and even #indiedev is poison.

It deteriorates the space for risk and sustainable growth, until all that's left is to to either make slot-machines or slop-machines.

In the wake of recent conversations around the use of generative AI in game development, we want to make it clear where we stand:

Causeway Studios has never used and will never use generative AI. We make games with deeply human stories and we value the people that make them too much.

Interesting thread about "buffet" style game services that I am sharing for no particular reason.
I used to work for a company called GameTap, we were probably the first "Netflix for games," started around 2006. It didn't go well. I used to think the idea was ahead of its time, and maybe it was, but I also think times have changed and this no longer makes sense. 🧵

"...It sticks with you, in that soft aching way..." 🥹

This isn’t just a problem with books. Less professional criticism means more marketing driven understanding by consumers and that’s bad for the consumer AND the worker.
It's profoundly saddening to read that AP will no longer be assigning or running book reviews because readers don't engage with them enough and they take too much effort to plan and assign. People complain about critics as gatekeepers; wait until all that's left is marketing.

Mike is THE PERSON to talk to about your game, project, soul, studio, and/or strategy. He _will_ make it better. Seriously, he literally wrote the book on Game Dev Business.
Some news! Forgive the copy pasta from LinkedIn, but it's a lot of characters. I live in Verbose mode (for my fellow Infocom olds).

Short version: My time at Leviathan Core has come to an end, and I'm excited to ramp up my work with studios. More in the image!
