My biggest issue in research is how easily distracted I get. Like I am passionate about my research, yes. But it only took one conversation with a job recruiter from Mitsubishi to get me reading articles on eye tracking and signal detection in driving simulations.

本日の「文系エッセンス：哲学」第2回（東工大大学院）は、「客観という言葉はどこから来たか」というテーマで概念の歴史を辿ってみました。
『日本国語大辞典』の「客観」の項目から出発して、そこに最古の用例として引かれている西周訳『心理学』のページを眺め（ほんの150年ほど前の日本語がいまとだいぶ違っている様子に注意しつつ）、「客観」という新造語がどのように使われているを見ました。
OEDのobject、『岩波哲学・思想事典』の「客観性」の項目を頼りに、object / subjectがもとは現在と反対とも言えそうな意味を担っていたことを確認したところで時間切れ。続きはまた来週。

私たちは世界を理解するために、物事を自然にカテゴリー化する傾向があります。だからこそバイアスが生まれるのは自然なこと。でも、問題は、そのままにして自己や制度を批判的に見直さない時に差別が固定化され、害を生んでしまうこと。
「自分は差別をしない」と宣言することが重要なんじゃなくて、「差別を行っても自分の行為を反省すること」が大切なんだということは何度でも言いたい。差別を一切行わない完ぺきな人間なんてどこにもそんざいしなくて、むしろ差別をしうるという弱さを自覚していることが差別への抵抗に繋がる。
