Yes, AI coding agents maybe accelerating the decline of the OSS business models, but it has been broken for decades. You can't make money doing OSS. It is only out of a position of privilege that you can do OSS over the long term, and we must continue to demand that of those who have privilage.

Pretty wild that LLMs seem to have trained on my 2019 article of "The product-minded engineer" and I now find blog posts published in 2025 that are an exact rehash of my post.

Because if you ask an LLM "write a blog about a product-minded engineer" they spit out mine!!

My goal in life is to be wrong enough to warrant a sub-skeet by @searyanc.dev. His takes on the trials and tribulations of OSS are so good.

Hey @deno.land Deploy EA ability to add environment variables is broken. I don't know for how long. Tried on multiple browsers.

Now we are going to fixate on the East Wing instead of murdering foreign nationals, kidnapping citizens and disappearing non-criminal immigrants. Perfect distraction politics.

Telling moment: I was walking back from the rally, but a couple miles from it, carrying nothing but my gigantic American flag. An eight year old on his bike sees me with it and yells "No Kings!!" with absolute conviction.

My friends, they have lost the flag.

2016 me would think 2025 me had gone completely insane or had gone way too dark in the humour department.

This is effectively the textbook definition of the Luddites. Technology including AI itself is amoral, it is up to us to properly integrate it into our society which maximises benefit and minimises harm, not stick our fingers in our ears and go "I can't hear you."
this is the really ineffective head-in-the-sand reaction a lot of folks on Bluesky tend to have if you talk about any harm reduction-based approach to the reality that millions of people are using AI tools today. The current approach to critiquing AI is obviously not working, but they don't care.

Apparently watching some sort of Minecraft video some time ago and creator named the key without explanation, and the 7yo has been pondering it potential use for a while.

The semver library used in npm, yarn and pnpm could be made 33x faster.

Ran into that while wondering why running `npm install` takes so long on the Preact repo.

During the installation process, package managers run a bunch of semver comparisons. The semver library used in npm, yarn and pnpm can be made around 33x faster.
