We must be reaching the point where people no longer have space for these sorts of expensive collabs that are not intended to actually be used, given how many of them has happened in recent years. So the sales for these items will soon being to flop right? www.ctvnews.ca/lifestyle/ar...

Starfleet academy is so unnecessarily noisy in so many ways I cannot understand how anyone allowed this. The lighting, sets, alien and ship designs all of it needs to be toned down.

I cannot believe Dandadan just name dropped an actual Canadian minister of defense.

The game awards is successful and popular because it gives a wide audience what it wants. If it catered to the small % of people who truly care about the artistry of games it would be a small show few watch. DICE and GDC awards have existed for years with the public showing no interest for them.
December 12, 2025 at 8:26 PM
This does a good job of touching on a feeling I have had for awhile:

For all the complaints people have about the game awards not being more artistically inclined, I think the people who complain about this are largely hypocritical because if they wanted better it is out there.

Embarrassing.

We obviously need better frameworks to allow use of copyright materials and to reduce the current doctrines around "canon" and "official" artistic works. But watering down your works like this is terrible idea.

Latest chapter of Chainsawman having Denji say "my high school educated genius brain" is a perfect example of the actual genius of the series writing.

Yeah is crazy how the mantra used to be "Games journalism is a young persons game and not for people who want a family" and now the opposite is true and there is no room for young people to get in anymore.
November 20, 2025 at 7:00 PM
Obviously there are younger people who get in, & as they say streamers are definitely young, but it feels like the media who really shape coverage/conversations are an older group so you get skewed coverage toward classic games and a lack of opinions from people with no attachment to older consoles.
November 20, 2025 at 2:42 PM
Nice to hear people talk about the lack of new blood in games media. Definitely feels like wider games coverage is lacking perspective from people who did not grow up playing games in the 90s.

This might be one of the dumbest conspiracy theories out there, how would you even hide something that recent. Photography was prominent and even video was becoming widespread.
If you're not familiar, it's the theory that around 1900 (125 years ago) there was a great "mudflood" that buried the old world, and neo-classical buildings are actually just the tops of ancient buildings from this previous civilization buried under all the mud.

Just an incredible quote. The kind of thing a person says who has no ability to actually appreciate art and can only understand the world through the lens of everything being a transaction.
Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella was just on the online tech show TBPN and provided one of the longer answers about his views of the game business that I've seen
- Wants to put their games on everything, a la Office
- Wants to revisit console/PC paradigm
- "best way to innovate is to have good margins"

The latest chapters of Dandadan sure are an emotional rollercoaster.
October 27, 2025 at 8:17 PM
Oh yeah not expecting you to know, more so I think some of the convo on this has to be "It sure does seem like the game did well but in the current climate who knows what ludicrous expectations a publisher has".
October 24, 2025 at 12:54 PM
Question is though what do we think Sony wanted? Find it hard to imagine that Sony is as kind at factoring in things like how Covid gave GoT a boost, and will surely have expected measurable growth with GoY.
October 24, 2025 at 12:35 PM
This is all without getting into the seemingly inevitable shrinking of global population.

It is not just tech that will have problems but what do companies who manufacture actual physical things we all need like cars and toothpaste do when there is no way see reliable growth anymore.
October 23, 2025 at 3:50 PM
Globalization has lead to market penetration in pretty much all markets so there are not new untapped companies/people.

Internet/cloud adoption is saturated.

In general for tech there is not really a new thing that everyone will need to pay for anew(Unless you but the AI hype).

One thing we are not talking about enough is how many of the reasons that large companies have been able to see the continual growth they have are coming to an end and that none of them seem to have plans for what to do when growth is no longer possible. Talking things like:
Microsoft’s lofty goals for Xbox profit are behind its price hikes and studio shutdowns. A new report reveals Microsoft CFO Amy Hood set across-the-board targets of 30% profit margins, far beyond averages for the video game industry www.theverge.com/news/805280/...
