It’s so hard to grieve someone who is still here. It’s hard to watch someone who prided themselves on their leadership and competence fade away, slowly, inexorably, while being unable to do or say anything meaningful

Goddamn, I hate Alzheimer’s. Watching my mother slowly lose pieces of herself, while she’s fully aware that she is losing her capacities, is hell on earth. She has made it clear she doesn’t want to be BS’ed, and I’ve never been able to lie to her. So day after day, I break her heart and grieve w her

Don’t believe the rhetoric being pushed by violent criminals about ‘violent criminals’ cause it’s all BS.

I’m listening to a full cast audiobook which gave accents to characters named Munoz and Ito for no good reason. The books are set in an urban fantasy Houston. Nothing in the text supports the choice to give them accents. In fact, the idioms suggest otherwise.

So here’s how I see things in broad strokes. There are kind of three divergent roads from here.
1) Our institutions hold, more or less. We limp forward and make it to the midterms and beyond. Elections happen and are free enough and fair enough that we can reverse things.

Ray of sunshine: one of the 4th graders I work with got bullied today by 5 of his classmates. Not only was he comfortable telling his teacher, he immediately met with the counselor, and the 4 bullies went with him and the counselor 10 minutes later. This is these kids’ norm. For now, anyway
