If we lost the Wayback Machine that would be equal to library burnings at this point. So much of our cultural footprint is online.

Please, do not ignore the importance of archival work! Digital culture is elusive enough as it is. Being able to find and reference the way we have expressed ourselves online throughout the years is important context for so many media studies!
📢 The Internet Archive needs your help.
At a time when information is being rewritten or erased online, a $700 million lawsuit from major record labels threatens to destroy the Wayback Machine.
Tell the labels to drop the 78s lawsuit.

Surprising birds that are smart enough to be lost in thought is the funniest thing. I walked up to a magpie, it took a double take, winced, then nervously looked around before deciding to fly away

1 surprising thing I learned when I was writing my manifesto for the Comics Devices Library is that reading comics - or rather, reading images in sequence to construct and apprehend meaning - is itself a difficult and unique literacy + comprehension skill that does not come naturally to most people.
I truly think that comics is more than an art form, it’s a language. For many of us it comes as second nature. But I’ve met so many people who can’t write it, read it, or comprehend it. Treating it as a language solves lots of our issues. Graphic Novels are just books written in that language.
i'm kind of weirded out by the idea that "graphic novel" has any connotation with "high-brow" or "better than comics" because to me it just means a novel-length physical publication with a contained story. it's still comics, but it differentiates it from "the entire run of Spider-Man" or "20-pagers"

Tuca & Bertie - 2020 Holiday Postcard
A holiday postcard for the Tuca & Bertie team, by yours truly. I was asked to recreate a painting by Guillaume Bodinier, and to give them a somewhat realistic look. This is the result.

AI generated content is ALWAYS exploitation.
Periodic reminder: a lot of what makes AI "work" is exploited people doing the tasks, just hidden behind fancy websites.
It's good that a normie outlet like 60 Minutes is reporting on this.

There's something I need people to understand.
The studio that made this released some numbers. They had to produce 85 minutes of footage to find 15 usable seconds for this ad.
The machine that creates moving images out of nothing has a failure rate of 340:1 and the best 15 seconds... is this.

Sharing this so more people get a chance to see it, but I’ve had Handy on my phone basically as long as I’ve owned a smartphone for quick head angle and lighting references on the fly and I love it
Have you tried @handyarttool.bsky.social? It’s not a photo reference site like this, but it has a number of head references you can rotate at any angle you want
