In light of the dawn of the Zohran era, I’m reupping my post on Alexandria, VA’s free bus policy

TLDR: bus ridership increased, bus commuting increased slightly, car commuting didn’t change. Results complicated by concurrent changes to bus routes

if you still use Twitter please understand that you are enabling and supporting this.

It’s only going to get worse, so you may as well leave now and start rebuilding your “following” anywhere else.
For the last few days on X, people (mainly women, and sometimes children) have had nonconsensual images of them in swimsuits (or much worse) requested by users and created by Grok.

Musk's only apparent response thus far has been to crack jokes about it.
so x dot com’s ai generated CSAM and they admitted it may violate US law and … i haven’t seen in anyone in power say much at all or call to stop using the platform

Liberalism means passing bills, no matter the content of the bill. Reminds me of my favorite example of liberalism, the Enabling Act of 1933
She helped pass a bill—which is 100% part of liberalism. Maybe you don’t like the bill. Maybe the bill will hurt some people and have bad outcomes. But that’s part of liberal democracy.

I believe that you can be a leftist without instinctively dismissing every statistic that contradicts your preconceived notions

Look I’m open to the idea that current surveys undercount gig workers but I’m not sure that “surveys are an inherently failed form of data collection and by the way the only correct form is vibes” is right
It literally isn't.

A survey is an unscientific method of gathering information that is often delivered by a system that has gamed the very survey to give the results they desire.

People I respect On Here appear to be mocking this but I think it’s pretty important.

If I had the time I would write about it, but basically I think a lot of why people are mad about “the economy” is because of price increases on marquee “experience” goods, driven by catering to the rich

Watching WEAPONS and having my suspension of disbelief broken because the liquor store in the town is called USA Liquors but in PA all liquor stores are run by the state and are called Fine Wine and Good Spirits

On the other hand, when it comes to any hint that someone might infringe on their ability to do whatever they want in their two ton metal death machine, otherwise progressive pro car people because the most antisocial, conservative people on the planet
I think it was a huge mistake to make our society so car-dependent. But man. The Discourse today is a good reminder that when it comes to roadways policy, otherwise progressive anti-car people quickly become some of the most pro-carceral, anti-civil liberties people on the planet.

This Thanksgiving I think we as a nation need to reckon with the fact that it’s ridiculous that the term “brother-in-law” applies to both my sister’s husband and to my wife’s sister’s husband. There should be another word for the latter!

🚨 TWO-CHILD LIMIT SCRAPPED🚨

"We on this side of the House do not believe that the solution to a broken welfare system is to punish the most vulnerable."

"We are lifting 450,000 children out of poverty with the end of the two child limit."

Something funny I noticed yesterday is that the two people I follow On Here who are as far apart on the ideological spectrum as you can get (within the Bluesky-verse) are both vehemently opposed to the idea that the Epstein story is political needle-mover
