When I received an email earlier this summer from the Desert Research Institute (DRI) seeking volunteers for a pilot research project studying the effects of heat and wildfire smoke on Washoe County residents, I immediately emailed back. I wasn’t sure if I was someone DRI would want to study, but I was hopeful. Scientists Kristin VanderMolen and Yeongkwon Son are looking to learn how heat and smoke affect people’s health.
