“Children are dying while 6,000 trucks with food wait a few miles away,” say CPC leaders Reps. Greg Casar, Ilhan Omar and Chuy Garcia. “We demand Trump use U.S. leverage to ensure that Israel fully restores international aid access to Gaza. It is not too late to save millions of lives.”

Am I remembering correctly that your session was at the same time? I was torn about which to go to but the tech stuff is more urgent for my K-12 setting in this particular moment. Would love to get the slides for your session but still can't figure out that part of the ALA app 😆

I got a full-body shiver (not the good kind) whenever I had to walk past that thing. Going to the AI panel with @ebonyteach.bsky.social, @marthabee.bsky.social, and @dupatton.bsky.social was a good palate cleanser.

Lol and now I see that literally two re-posts back, @scumbelievable.bsky.social mentioned these. I'm glad a lot of us read them! I spent the late 80s/early 90s evangelizing fellow feral readers about these books, which come to think of it is, I guess, how I started in the librarian biz.

@alixeharrow.bsky.social I literally yapped at you about these after a conference panel today, but: Wise Child & Juniper! (My mom ordered them for me from this amazing catalog called Chinaberry. Wish it still existed!!)

You'll never get liquor or wine in PA unless you shop at Fine Wine & Good Spirits... what we Philly oldheads call "the state store" bc it's operated by the commonwealth. (Granted, it's a monopoly of sorts & I have some quibbles with their selection at times. 😆)

I'll be sure to swing by! As a librarian and a human, I have learned so much from you about organizing (and hope!) over the years. ❤️‍🔥

Is there anywhere else we can catch you at ALA? Would love to join a session, working group, chat, etc!!

If you were too young in 2003 here is what Bush told the American people:

1) The Iraq War won’t cost a lot of money
3) We won’t need a lot of troops
4) We’ll bring peace and freedom to Iraq
5) We’ll find WMDs
6) We’ll be welcomed as liberators
7) It will be easy
8) It won’t take long

All lies.

it’s even more demoralizing when the history you’re repeating is history you were around for the first time

Furious. Absolutely furious. And even more incensed than I was when we marched and protested during the freezing cold winter of 2002-2003.
Just as Iraq had no WMD, Iran has no nuclear weapons.

America has entered another unnecessary war in the Middle East

If you go w/ a new machine, the Janome HD-1000 is basic, sturdy & reliable. Good price point for what you get. No electronics, no bells & whistles, but I use it for quilting (with the right foot) so it's super durable. We have a bunch of them for checkout in my library and they've yet to break!

They had to be so stressed, but they stayed cool and collected (even when being asked for toilet paper for the umpteenth time). My own anxiety ratcheted down several notches just because of how focused and calm they were.

My best Costco story happened the day before Philly's COVID lockdown. Shelves were almost bare but employees were helping folks get what they needed wherever possible. Insane lines were managed skillfully by ONE person with a headset.
The employees are absolutely LOVELY.
Did a Costco run yesterday and every single employee was a goddamn delight.

Thank you for saying that the books can be read in any order because a 2nd grader had a full meltdown today about wanting to read your volume without having read the others yet. He did not believe me that it was okay, so maybe he'll believe the lizard book author. 🤷‍♀️😆

"Nazis used trains, ICE uses planes" is one of the most powerful statements I've seen.
New — I spoke to the school principal of Sackets Harbor, NY, where ICE handcuffed and disappeared a mother and 3 kids (including a 3rd grader). It’s also the town Trump Border Czar Tom Homan calls home.

Cook tells me about how the small town is taking on enormous power to bring the students home:
Try that in a small town
ICE disappeared a mother and 3 children. Neighbors of Trump's Border Czar said hell no.

My friend (40something cis, male, white centrist) was, I think, drawn to his naked ambition and perceived innovation. Loves an iconoclast. Fascinated by the "mad genius" who might take us to Mars, etc.

I'd make my aides bring me a complete list of every book in my personal library, and then I'd go down the list pitching each and every one of them with vigorous enthusiasm.
What would you talk about for 19 hours?

I live adjacent to an eldercare home, there were ambulances there day & night throughout 2020. My next door neighbor's elderly husband was deteriorating as covid hit, they moved him to a nursing home & he was dead from the virus within weeks. Mr Claude didn't have to go out like that. Heartbreaking.

Yes!!! We called it "room time" and it was just that, time in your room. 😆 To this day my adolescent kids sometime tell me to leave them alone bc they're having room time.

Spending my spring break as an elementary educator AT HOME. I actually feel, dare I say, rested?! My 12 yr old son and I went to an aquarium to see the hippos and built Legos and listened to audiobooks and went for walks. Felt like hoarding joy in the best way. ❤️
