The biggest factor by far is that he was on TV as a successful businessman on a highly rated, culturally significant show. That's why he's president. That's the reason he wins elections.
I didn't say Trump is easy to beat. Presidential races are now close due to increasing partisan polarization. I said that Trump, the most unpopular president on record, is a bad politician who has been carried by external factors and, per data, has underperformed relative to normal Republicans.
