Why does this picture of Glenn Close look like one of the big head books?

No one really warns you about the grieving you’ll end up doing as a service worker. That maybe you’re not family, but when someone stops in the store once a week, you are family.

It’s been a tough week of losses. A regular. A beloved doggie regular. The cat I’ve lived with 3 years.

I’m sad.

Is the novel even about World War II if you can’t see the woman’s back on the cover?

Ok everyone is seeing auroras and I can’t see an aurora and I hate every one of you.

Picture books on the brain this week and I remembered Mac Barnett saying “If we don’t think picture books are real literature, then we don’t believe that children are real people.” Yes, sir.

I just found out my newest roommate thinks it was a good thing to put Hayden Christensen as the force ghost at the end of Return of the Jedi and seriously, I don’t know if this is going to work out.

It’s literally on the Freedom Trail
I love that the Boston cop slide never got fixed and now people just willingly go down it in tribute. It’s basically a national landmark at this point

Actually like “If Mamdani won NYC, I can change the sheets on my bed” today.

I love teenagers rick or treating. A while ago though, my niece told me angrily about a group of boys in the neighborhood dressed as bush people. I agreed with her that was absolutely inappropriate. But then it turned out they were actually dressed as bushes and just jumping up and scaring people

All I want to do is make displays of stuffies and read picture books to kids in goofy voices.

Needing to argue about free speech absolutism while Oh Right! panicking for coworkers under a shelter in place order is not it.

There’s a reason I’m behind on everything these days.

When will someone convince publicists that they should always include an isbn in their emails?

Working for years at bookstore information desks has given me the skill to assume that half the information people are giving me is incorrect and hear what they really mean instead….

Niece: mom told me I needed to watch Weird Science and it was horrible.

Me: Oh, she actually meant Real Genius.

When all the books have sprayed edges, then none of the books will have sprayed edges.

Is that a thing?
October 7, 2025 at 10:55 PM
Nah, I don’t really need that book… but wait! What is this? Sprayed edges???? Who ever HEARD of such a thing. In that case, I’ll take 700! It doesn’t even MATTER what the book is about.

Why am I crying? People getting sent home on a four year old episode of Lego Masters. Which I’ve seen before.

I know I am a horrible killjoy, but the idea of there being a monetary reward for the best Banned Books Week display makes me want to vomit.

A display contest? Like it’s a freaking party? Can’t we just give that money to a store actually spending their labor time fighting legal battles?

I’m working on a catalog reading picture books and a dude just read over my shoulder and said “hard at work, huh?” and I am happy to inform you I did not actually punch him in the face.

Someone pointed out a VERY well paying bookstore job to me and I couldn’t even get a quarter of the way through the job description before it made me want to jump into the ocean.

Does AMZ seriously have an ad campaign about how you can spend less on your children because you can’t stand them? Is this the thing that will get me to pay for no ads on peacock?

I went on vacation for two weeks. For 3 of the days I had ZERO cell phone service. And there were no TVs. There was a very sweet baby water buffalo. I kind of want to go back.

Ok, it’s taken me maybe 10 years to connect it, but it’s not that I hate when Survivor does surprise smaller group tribal councils after the merge. It’s when they do it with no discussion time between the announcement and tribal council.

Death purely by chance is boring. There needs to be a fight.

They keep massacring people in line for aid and I see less outrage about that from legacy media than I do for the words Mamdani didn’t say

Obviously the Ai Weiwei exhibit feels intensely appropriate for this moment in our country’s time, but that doesn’t need much analysis. The thing my brain is trying to work through after that and the Chihuly museum are the ways their two forms of art interact with current AI BS being forced on us.
