11 is to me almost totally implausible, given it happened what like 7 times independently on Earth?
What’s your top option? Mine is 3.

interesting question--what is the largest apartment building by unit count in Chicago with zero parking? including pre-war and post war buildings @slucy.bsky.social
Another tower supersized by last year's Journal Sq inclusionary upzoning.
It was slated for 639 dwellings before the upzoning, now 1,151. Will be largest 0-parking building in JC so far–and likely the whole US outside NYC.
JC also seems to have dropped the demands to preserve 629 Newark Ave's façade

One thing that startled me about SF was densely packed timber housing in fairly central areas. Some of it predates 1906, but a lot of it seemingly doesn't. Feels like they were less aggressive than other cities in banning fire-prone typologies in the 19th/early 20th c? @stephenjacobsmith.com

it seems that dutch land use regs prevent ASML from expanding into the corn fields adjacent to their main campus, so they're expanding into a satellite campus near the airport. i feel like this is kind of absurd? ASML is like 3% of the country's economy

Ikaria is also famously a kind of strange place, with a very complex political and social history -- a brief period of "independence" following Ottoman rule, Italian and German occupation followed by mass evacuation to DP camps, and later lots of internally exiled communists.

Nothing makes me prouder to be a Chicagoan than to learn one of my ancestors got caught in 1936 by G-men with the equivalent of $11m of stolen treasury notes, in Blue Island of all places
