In the early 1960s, in Adelaide, Murray Allen & a team of individuals & students started to explore experimental ideas in computing. The result was CIRRUS - EP10 The Computer History of Australia youtu.be/VGwcOXVAsU8?...

Cirrus was a ground breaking Australian designed computer, operational from 1962-72. It was one of the 1st to have changeable instruction sets, stored in Read Only Memory. Theoretically it could emulate & simulate any computer of its day:

For the last couple of weeks, I have been dismantling an old train … a Red Rattler from Victoria. I’m moving a section of it home for an important new project :-)

For the last couple of days I have been recovering an old “Red Rattler” from a deceased estate. Epic amount of work & incredibly interesting. But it’s going to take time to recover most of it! I traveled on these trains when I was about 12yro. I remember the door open & my feet dangling out!

UTECOM was used to play games and music, however, it also produced interesting sounds via Ditmar Jenssen’s Weather Forecasting program, called the “Barotropic Rock”, an acoustic representation of the data.

Yesterday I spent the day at Labassa filming a new project for an incredible artist. I can’t say much about it now but as soon as I can I will, however, the works presented are incredible!!!

After decades of loyalty my partnership with RACV ends today! All services, insurances & future deals are at an end! This includes home & content insurance, car insurance, roadside assistance & anything else they have! Fuck ‘em!

Some computers I’m trying to find images of are difficult. Atropos was a special computer designed & built at WRE in South Australia in early 1960s. It became operational in 1963. I can’t find any images for this computer at this stage. NAA may have something but it needs security clearance 1st.

As I depart Adelaide, I’m in awe of this stunning sunrise. Long drive ahead & with some concerns about diverting around fires in north west Vic, it’s going to be interesting day!

To top it off, I managed to cut 3 of my fingers down to the bone, which needed plastic surgery to fix, on a formed sheet metal frame. It’s been an eventful year but that’s nothing to others involved in wars, major accidents & incidents around the world. I do wish things could be different?!

This year was quite the struggle on many levels. I completed over 100 interviews for my series “the computer history of Australia”. I was hit with covid & had to withdraw for several weeks, my car disintegrated & caused me to buy a new one & then there was work to pay the bills. Somehow I made it?!
