"Pipe down!"

Aboard a ship, a boatswain's pipe is used to relay orders.

To dismiss a crew, the pipe is sounded, and the command "pipe down" is given.

Because it got much quieter after the dismissal, the command became associated with quieting down or making less noise.

As Congress takes up the issue of universal vouchers in the ECCA, let FL be a warning:

Nearly 70% of new voucher recipients this year were already enrolled in private schools.

40% came from families too wealthy to have qualified under the original rules.

'St. Paddy's Day' is usually preferred over 'St. Patty's Day.'

'Paddy' is the shortened form of the original Irish spelling of 'Patrick,' which is 'Pádraig.'

This is my affiliate link, which I think gives me like $1-2 if you buy from it:

‘Affect’ is usually a verb and ‘effect’ is usually a noun.

Affect = Action
Effect = Everything Else

However, there are SOME exceptions.

COLBERT, on Rep. Al Green’s removal:

“Some people questioned why so much muscle was needed to remove an old man with a cane. But it turns out it was for a serious reason. When security searched him, they found that he smuggled in a spine."

I love this so much!!! AS Byatt wrote about her visit to South Korea in her story “Loss of Face” and its descriptions of Korea are some of the most dead-on ever written in English 💜 Thinking about her so much these days ✨
Taken by my father, then British Cultural Attaché to South Korea, in August 1985, when AS Byatt was the star turn at a series of summer lectures on English Literature.

This is a bigger issue than people realize. Not just jobs lost. But their families losing benefits. Landlords losing tenants. Cities and towns losing revenue. This is how recessions start

Ready Fire Aim is no way to govern.
More accurate, fewer words;

"There are plenty of contractors going under".

A friend furloughed 75% of staff (furlough w/paying for health insurance for three months), 50% exec pay cut, 25% rest of staff to keep as many people w/salary.

PS: Wasn't 18F a government office, not a contractor.
