Since they were babies, part of my kids' bedtime routine was me staying with them at night and singing to them or playing music for them as I rock them to sleep. As they've gotten older, it's evolved into me putting on one of a selection of playlists as I hang out and they fall asleep.

I found a salamander while cleaning the leaves of the sidewalk in front of the house. I gently relocated him under the neighbor's porch, but it made me think of Smoking Salamander Games and the rules-lite RPG they created, Tiny Dungeon.

A recent episode of @skeptoid.bsky.social mentioned "Weird Appalachia", which made me remember that I hadn't yet caught up with @oldgodspod.bsky.social . So I went to the feed for the latter to see how far behind I was now.

btw conventional games marketing wisdom says block game will never get a lick of press because i'm developing it out in the open and anything that's public knowledge is not news so that means for it to go anywhere it has to have strong word of mouth

I get that every entertainment has its audience, but of all the things the Internet has wrought in my lifetime, watching other people open TCG booster packs *for their monetary value* has got to be the dumbest, most late-stage capitalism thing imaginable. It's essentially watching someone play slots

Steam's Autumn Sale is on and so many games I've been eyeing are on sale: MW5 Clans + Ghost Bear for $35, Ixion or Front Mission 1st $12, Frostpunk 2 $30... Or I could spend nothing and continue playing Minecraft.

I'm fortunate to live in a fairly quiet town of middling wealth with decent quality schools. It's not perfect, but it's nice to raise a family.
Tonight, I finally saw an unhoused person sleeping in the open, on the steps of a nearby church.
If that's not a sign of the times, I don't know what is.

The kids randomly wanted to watch Lightyear, so we put it on before dinner. I think I chuckled at more of the jokes in that film than most recent Disney offerings.
Yeah, the plot's a bit incoherent in the third act, but you know what? Screw the haters, Lightyear is good.
