due to a pretty sever allergy to sulfites, I can't really drink most wines, anymore, but it left me exploring craft beers and realizing that there is every bit as much diversity to beer as wine, even if snobs will still look down on beer as "low class for the masses".

not perfect, yet, but I am really happy with the "organics" (meatbag?) practice the Character Creation Challenge has provided me.

I think these are some of the best non mech pics I've drawn in a long time, the Halfling especially. But him and the Dwarf really feel BECMI to me.

ink sketch of a D&D Dwarf CharacterCreationChallenge day24 BECMI D&D, 4d6 drop lowest/ Pt Adjust Today's character is a revisit to my 2nd D&D character ever, Bluebeard the Dwarf. 100% a total rip off of the D&D figure Elkhorn (that I may or may not have sticky fingered from the local Pick n Save). Hey. I was 9. Cut me some slack. Anyhow, tried to make him match the figure as close as possible, and using the pt adjustment method in BECMI, I burned 2 pts of WIS to increase my Prime Requisite, STR, by 1 pt, to 18. Look at them BECMI saving throws! These guys were total Chads compared to AD&D Saves! (and powers unlocked after 1.4 million XP? Shaw, right! As if!) I think I played him to about lvl 5, but when we went to AD&D all my focus was on my original character, Aarion the Thief turned 1e Assassin. Anyhow, tomorrow, I think I will do something I don't think I ever did with him, and convert him into AD&D (aka a Dwarf Fighter probably.. but.. maybe I go to 2e and some of them fun Dwarf Kits...) My collection is tiny (though a few new pieces are coming courtesy a few gifts, like a G1 Powerglide), but it does give me some joy.

Sad at how Expensive Headmaster Transformers are though, will likely never get to add any to my collection.

So... note to self... rubs temples When you haven't made a Dark Sun character in 30 yrs.... you forget how much a PitA it is compared to standard campaign settings. I think only Spelljamming has more crap you have to juggle, lol. SO day 3 on the same character...... And no, I ain't making the 3 back ups. I have neither time, desire nor mental spoons for that. Also, there are almost certainly things done incorrectly. Juggling PDFs makes crosschecking stuff honestly a much bigger PitA than dead trees, and I did not meticulously re-read every single page of every official Dark Sun release. SO for instance, the "+1" to Str, Dex or Con that a Slave Gladiator gets... might not be able to be used on my STR stat which already was at std racial maximum, but nothing says not, and Dark Sun is weird AF on attributes. If so, well, then we'll slap it on the DEX instead, lose 2 to my dmg bonus, but as a -1 Def adj. No big, unless you want to make it a big by coming in like a mouthbreather with any critique. Lastly, d4 roll like ass, so I used an online dice roller. Kurg was born into slavery, and like many Half-Giants, was groomed for the Pits from childhood. While his owner was relatively small time, and he fought in lesser arenas around Athas, one thing stood out. Other Gladiators were smarter, savvier, tougher, quicker, etc. But literally none were stronger, and despite his size, bulk and strength, he was still surprisingly nimble. AD&D 2e Character Sheet for Half Giant Gladiator Character background pt2 When not actively fighting in arenas, he was forced to work as a teamster for Ahaz's wagon train, repairing broken wheels and caring/herding the beasts. His usual array was a heavy hide sleeve on his left arm, and a heavy hide greave on his left leg. Each arm has a set of razors, but almost all of his fighting was done with a massive Maul, nearly twice the size of a normal one. While Kurg was not smart, Kurg was cunning in a feral sense, and longed for freedom. And like many Slaves, Kurg hid a secret. One night, after a stunning victory, Kurg was paraded around his master's banquet hall, and he spent the night absorbing the thoughts, and morals of a largely evil, depraved crowd. The following morning Kurg woke up with violence firmly in his heart (NE for the day). Waiting til the a couple hours before dawn, and dissipating into a black mist, left his cell and made his way to his master's bedchamber. By the time the sun had risen, every single person in the encampment was torn asunder, a slaughter so vicious it appeared to be the work of a Nightmare Beast. From there he made his flight, where he would eventually find shelter with a Druid, who would allow him to recover, but also reset his moral compass. Kurg's driving force now is to tear down the gladiatorial system, stone by stone, slave master by slave master. AD&D 2e Character Sheet for Half Giant Gladiator

Revisiting old friends.

This IS my LotR.

Yes, Hickman & Weis owe a lot to Tolkien in it's creation, but for me the pacing is better, the mythology much less convoluted & the characters more "real".

That might offend the Tolkien purists, but my personal enjoyment isn't based upon their opinion. 🤷‍♂️
