my only complaint is they could have been made as part of a radical heatsink system, or specialized coolant pods, etc, to explain them, but weren't. IIRC a later X does have the radical, but RAW it's a single location item, so still not really "there".

D&D armor and damage mechanics were always an abstract, not a granular system.

Essentially, one records damage to armor (and I love the AR system), one just counted the armor as absorbing or deflecting to hit rolls that didn't overcome your AC.

Both have a logic to them. 🤷‍♂️
