Rolling the paperclip between my fingers, I took yet another deep breath as I focused onto my mana. What would Mom think if she walked in on me trying to learn how to pick locks on my own bathroom door? What excuse would I give? Did it matter or would she jump to conclusions only partially wrong? I did as Sia had done, sticking the paperclip into the lock. Nothing. I didn’t even feel the tumbler. “Did you break my door?” “Nope. Quit trying to listen. You need to feel for it, control the air around the paperclip instead of the paperclip itself.” I was so not in the mood for whatever game she was playing, but I had little choice: I had to play Sia’s games, or else I truly had no security for the future.
