I spent more time than I should have today looking at pencil sharpeners in the $200 to $300+ range because @skeskali.ca is a bad influence. Or a good influence. No, I am not buying one, despite my love of sharp tools.

I was asked to re-translate the instructions for a game for the library’s collection from the original German because the obviously machine-translated text wasn’t understandable. I hadn’t looked at much German for a couple of decades, but I did a better job. Imagine if a professional translated it.

Last night I baked pies. Please excuse the store bought crust. My mom said she’d make pie dough and this is what I ended up with. Anyway, our family pumpkin pie is my great aunt Blanche’s almond pumpkin custard with browned butter. It contains significantly less pumpkin than typical pumpkin pies.

Last night I baked pies. Please excuse the store bought crust. My mom said she’d make pie dough and this is what I ended up with. Anyway, our family pumpkin pie is my great aunt Blanche’s almond pumpkin custard with browned butter. It contains significantly less pumpkin than typical pumpkin pies.
Tonight I made a lot of gravy. Well, I roasted turkey pieces first. Then I made gravy. It will go to the freezer once it cools down. Usually I do this weeks in advance but I thought I had convinced the family to avoid turkey this year. I recently learned I was wrong.

I have a crockpot full of chicken thighs, chopped onions and peppers, tomatoes, chicken broth, a container of salsa on the brink of expiration, and lots of garlic powder and cumin, among other seasonings. I will make freezer portions and add noodles or rice upon reheat. Let’s see how this goes.

A couple weeks ago I needed about two teaspoons of pumpkin spice mix for a recipe. Since I didn’t have it and didn’t want to buy it, I figured I’d make some. I made a wee bit too much.

Okay. So this totally did me in. I am old, but also: while I am know as a fast walker, trailing after my 6’5” brother and his spry children on asphalt for over 4 hours had repercussions. I’m still a little sore two days later.
Because I’m THE BEST DAUGHTER, I waited 45 minutes in line for fair donuts for my parents. There is a 2 dozen limit. I only took a few for myself. Also rode the Ferris wheel multiple times with my 7 year old niece.
