Books, Food, Life at the library, sometimes a bit weird.
I know why it bothers me. “Pig” is a term I’ve heard older men use for women they find aggressive or who they think aren’t staying in their place, being feminine enough, etc. It’s pure misogyny.

I am trying to imagine the IRB panel discussions for that one. It’s not going well.

Thank you for this! When I suggested using our old catalog cards for writing exercises for a program at the library, people looked at me as if I’d lost it. And, yes, I was the only one of them with a background in teaching writing. 🙄

And what gets me is that the dad rightly showed interest in the rest of the assessment and she brushes it off.

TWICE yesterday, I opened up a browser to look something up and forgot what I intended to look up.

After ordering program supplies for so long, I tend to get annoyed when I can’t get individual colors of items.
November 11, 2025 at 9:37 PM
Are they sold as individual colors or do you have to buy them in sets?

They are! I got a few with some kits and made the mistake of letting my young nieces use them. The kids treated them ok, but they are low on ink and now I’m sad.

I just want to have a few nice things.

In July, my parents (85) got one of the pricey Balsam flip trees. We did a test run and you really can wheel it out and put it up in under 5 minutes. 😂
It is ridiculous and it was expensive, but it is also perfect for them as they are getting older.

I’m shopping for seasonal jigsaw puzzles. We will see if my cats let me use them.

We’re kind of quirky, so board games and jigsaw puzzles are also popular. We might get a big puzzle or two for everyone to work on while they are visiting, too, because we are dorks.

We haven’t done presents for adults for a while. It had become an exercise in buying more stuff none of us needed. The kids get things, but nothing super extravagant. I am typically the purveyor of craft kits and art supplies.

Is somebody providing them with a measuring device?

Once upon a time, when I actually looked at any ALA competencies, I’d glance at them, think ‘okay, that’s about a decade or so behind in terms of literacy research [which I had a background in]’, nobody had time for this, these two things might be common sense, and move on.

When I first read The Prince at age 15, I thought it explained a lot about high school. Decades later, I still think my initial impression wasn’t that far off.

made a soup, and more. Froze about half of everything (well, most of the soup because I made A LOT) and I’ll add little sides like salads during the week. I also use my rice cooker a lot.

I like to big batch things that freeze well so I can eat them for a day or two and save the rest for future meals. I end up with a nice collection of items in the freezer. Sometimes I make a weekend of it so I have a few things to start the week with. This weekend I roasted squash, chicken thighs,

None of the above, and I frequently use purple ink. I like Uniball Signo gel pens.

I don’t think I’ve seen it where I live in Indiana.

I made a soup base (that I mostly froze) the other day just to use up a lot of veggies that I needed to use up before they went bad. It is soooooo good!

I’ve considered these, but I’m too adhd to be happy with anything planned out that far ahead. Instead, I have a freezer filled with portions of meal components I’ve made in bulk and can pull out in different combinations or as a base for other meals. Also, my rice cooker gets a workout.
