Today and yesterday Year 10 have been doing simultaneous equations starting with practicing adding and subracting 2 equations before moving on to figuring out which they should use to get only 1 term then solve.

Is there anyone who teaches AQA GCSE maths who would be willing to give me a whistle stop tour of what’s available exam paper support wise? I know Edexcel’s stuff inside out but want to support ECTs who are teaching AQA with where to find things for year 11!

Last percentages lesson for this year 9 group!
Finding the original - always a fan favourite to get wrong on every test as they haven't read the question.

Y8 were factorising today. First we worked backwards from some area models, and then used prime factor tiles to model some harder examples. #MathsToday

Really enjoyed these multiple choice transformations of graphs questions from @piximaths.bsky.social
Doesn't have any reflection questions but easy enough to solve.

#mathstoday #weeklywins for the second lesson in a row, y9 were presented with something that they said looks scary, but smashed it within a lesson. Today we were dividing algebraic expressions, and we got as far as dividing expressions with indices. I have even had a couple say they love algebra!

Right folks, time for some #WeeklyWins

• Lovely presentation evening last night, even if it meant getting home after 10 😂

• 2nd class in a row I've been pleasantly surprised how they dealt with percentage multipliers...maybe I'm good at this!

• All start of term data and admin deadlines met 🥳

Had a weird dream about factoring last night...

x², 6x and -16 are three terms. You can choose any pair or all three and it will factorise.

a) x² + 6x
b) 6x - 16
c) x² - 16
d) x² + 6x - 16

A mathematical curiosity?
In writing my new book 'Practising Maths' I referenced a lovely result (you will have to buy it to see how) that sums such as 1 + 2 + 1, 1 ...

Can confirm that marking #ALevelMaths papers from back to front is a game changer. I mark question-by-question, so starting with the harder ones at the back and finishing with the quick ones at the front is simply glorious 🙌 #MathsToday
In #MathsToday this week it is mock week. I will be trialling marking my #ALevelMaths papers from back to front, because the last couple of questions are always the hardest to mark (compared to the first few, which are usually easy/multiple choice) I will update on my findings 😁
