Even the merest hint of perception that there is one rule for Western allies and another for the Global South will result in further deterioration of the international rules based order. This weakens us all.
Keir Starmer's spokesman opens the door to Benjamin Netanyahu being given immunity from arrest for war crimes should he travel to the UK, saying immunity would be "considered" by a "domestic legal process" should he come here.

Farage’s rhetoric undermines trust in democracy. One way to counter this is by holding media accountable for amplifying harmful voices.

Generally in favour of choice but the Canadian experience with MAID does give me pause.

Would people still opt for assisted death if the full range of options including long term supportive care were available? At present in UK is not - so is the “choice” made inherently coercive?
Last night I saw a group of (presumably) anti-Assisted Dying campaigners putting up Samaritans suicide prevention posters, over Dignity in Dying (pro) ads in Westminster tube station

I'm very interested in followers' views on the Bill. This feels like one of those issues that is beyond left/right

Would be helpful if Trump were to spell out exactly what CA, MEX, CHN should be doing?

Regardless, if you ignore the tone and language, the US has conducted itself in such manner even under DNC administrations so no surprises there. It’s a consequence of US hegemony.
Trump's promised/threatened day 1 tariffs target China, Canada and Mexico.

Any financial commitments should backed by a rigorous and transparent compliance mechanism to ensure these remain more than just words on paper. Unfortunately compliance has been severely overlooked and M&E mechanisms watered down significantly #COP29
Negotiators at the UN's COP29 climate summit landed a deal in early hours of Sunday morning.

I wonder how Elon Musk and the freedom of speech crowd will react to this?

How does this materially differ from the actions of the PRC wrt HK media? - so strongly (and rightly) critiqued by incoming US SoS Marco Rubio.
And there it is.

Netanyahu's govt has put sanctions on the Israeli newspaper Haaretz for its criticisms of Israel's behaviour.

Sanctions include prohibiting all public institutions from communicating with the paper.

This profoundly undermines democracy.

Unnecessary posturing and politicisation over the ICC gives ammo to authoritarian states and feeds into the perception among the Global South that there is “one rule for me but not for thee”.

Opinion | The International Criminal Court is not the venue to hold Israel to account
The ICC arrest warrants for Israel’s prime minister and defense chief undermine the court’s credibility and give rise to accusations of selective prosecution.
