As long as it’s not the US occupying Gaza - it’s already better than the Republicans. Its a choice between two - the US has no multi party system

Unquestioned media amplification of voices like Farage surely doesn’t help. A lot more scrutiny is required than simply a repetition of his talking points - UK needs to heed the lessons from US media complicity in the rise of Trump.

How would the Online Safety Act (2023) work here?

Wage stagnation since 2008, skyrocketing rents, and profiteering by big corporations brought us here. The cost of living crisis won’t end until we prioritize people over profits, and invest in affordable housing, fair pay, and public services. It’s not inevitable - it’s political.

Essentially - like “trickle down economics” - proponents like Bannon and Trump have a poor understanding of causality and are never really pushed to explain exactly how “trad family structures” result in prosperity to those in lower socioeconomic status groups. What is the causal link?

As ever, useful commentary Adam. What would be the essentials for better research into the effects of NPIs on outbreaks and what role does govt and WHO have? There is likely to be a resolution at the next WHA proposed by Norway, Brunei and others on PHSM / NPI research - input welcome

If the UK is a tyrannical police state then what does he have to say about the incoming President Trump? 🫡

States should also change how govt officials interact with Netanyahu - as they did for other leaders with an arrest warrant such as the then President Kenyatta of Kenya - adopting a policy of non essential engagement.

The West must make clear that they support the ICC as an independent judicial body.

Considering the strong support for the March 2023 ICC warrant against Putin, hesitancy will undermine Western credibility and lead to charges of Western hypocrisy.

It may be helpful to read the courts determination on universal jurisdiction wrt Putin and also the Netanyahu case.

At the end the court makes its decision from a legal perspective not a political one. its role purely technical rather than political. Leave politics to politicians

There is an arrest warrant for Putin by the ICC.

It’s up to the court to hear the evidence before it and decide. They have access to the material and Netanyahu has the right to mount a vigorous defense. The presumption of innocence is of course a given in this instance.

The court needs to examine each case on its own merits - it’s not its role to examine broader issues of the international governance system, hypocrisy of the UN, etc. Those are not within its TOR.

I don’t think that’s the question.

The question brought before the ICC is does Netanyahu have free rein to do whatever he wants in defense of his country, or do some acts constitute crimes? If the latter, then has criminal acts occured.

It’s a technical, specific q the court seeks to answer

Why do democratic states have get out of jail free cards? Is democracy a guarantee of international humanitarian law? Are democratic leaders exempt from committing crimes?

Arguments such as these only give ammo to authoritarian states who seek to disrupt the rules based international order.
