We (me, @smearle.bsky.social, @togelius.bsky.social) are working more to understand the relation between human solutions and the AI solutions in the #PuzzleScript games.

Help us by playing #online #puzzlescript games. No personal data is collected. Links are in the subsequent posts.
We introduce PuzzleJAX, a benchmark for reasoning and learning. 🧩💡🦎

PuzzleJAX compiles hundreds of existing grid-based PuzzleScript games to hardware-accelerated JAX environments, and allows researchers to define new tasks via PuzzleScript's concise rewrite rule-based DSL.

This is a really bad metaphor. Houses serve a purpose, but math homework doesn't NEED to be solved. I like Ted Chaing's metaphor: using AI for homework is like using a forklift to move weights in a gym. No one needs weights in a gym to be moved. The desired change is /within/ you.
I think his friend could come up with a more apt metaphor if he didn’t use chatgpt all the time.

This blog post makes so many great points.

I want to highlight the point about industry benefiting from not having to pay for the cost of trainings their scientists.

It’s why AI Industry labs are so productive. They’re staffed with fully trained phds with 5-10 years of experience. It’s amazing…
The trope that universities are "dependent" on the federal government fundamentally misunderstands how vital this partnership has been for the US. The private sector can't replace it. If we kill it, we're all worse off. From @donmoyn.bsky.social and me: donmoynihan.substack.com/p/are-univer...

I wrote a little bit about games academia/industry discourse, and what I think seem to be some common misconceptions about academic publishing (and academia in general, but mostly focusing on how to talk to academics).
