Among the news deluge this week were a handful of developments that help us to understand the chaos to come next year. Let’s start with Monday’s pardons.

The hysteria over Biden's pardons seems extra ridiculous now
Trump's abuse of the pardon power makes everything else look like child's play.

The technical definition of big, if true: after weeks of trying to straighten this out, I report for the Guardian today that Georgia’s election deniers are in talks with the DOJ and claiming a federal investigation into bogus 2020 fraud claims.

Justice department allegedly investigating debunked 2020 Georgia election fraud claims
Claim, by election deniers, would signal latest step by DoJ in moving away from protecting Americans’ voting rights

Wait, so private home ownership is a right now? Sweet! Hey, do healthcare next!
I know Americans will believe anything, but I don’t think they buy this to any meaningful degree, it’s just astoundingly stupid
JD Vance: "A lot of young people are saying housing is way too expensive. Why is that? Because we flooded the country with 30 million illegal immigrants who were taking houses that ought by right go to American citizens."

They’re starting to drop the rhetoric as their tactics grow more violent & our economy continues to flounder.

First it was:

Criminals

Now it’s:

Individuals “taking” jobs from “Americans”

Who’s next?

Dissidents
Purged politicians

Bovino: "Whether they were criminals or individuals that were taking jobs from Americans -- you name it, that's what they were doing. And I'll tell you what's gonna happen. We're gonna go even harder on the streets. If he releases those 650, we're gonna apprehend 1,650 on the streets of Chicago."

I’m not sure that “Trump isn’t releasing the files because Obama and Biden didn’t either” is gonna fly with the Republican conspiracy base.
CNN: Why do you think the WH working so hard to keep Epstein info from being released?

PETE SESSIONS: Probably for the same reason that Obama and Biden's administration did not release this data

CNN: As far as I know, neither Obama or Biden is mentioned in these documents. Trump is repeatedly

A brief update from Alternate America on this busy news morning: On Fox, a man with an ill-fitting cowboy hat is speaking at an ICE press conference about "Operation Dirtbag," which targeted undocumented immigrants who are sex offenders. No word yet on sex offenders who born and raised in Florida.

And you can do it on the cryptocurrency exchange Binance, which has accounted for $2 billion of the $5 billion the Trumps have made this year for their own cryptocurrency venture. Oh, and thanks to a pardon from Eric's dad, the founder of Binance won't have to serve time in prison.
Eric Trump: "You can send $500 million worth of bitcoin on a Sunday night at 11pm while having a glass of wine with your wife for virtually zero fees."

Busy day for Trump today as the government reopens and Congress roils over whether to release records about his longtime friendship with the world's most notorious pedophile.

A perfect circle is Epstein helping Russia to blackmail Trump with real estate deals and other kompromat ahead of the 2016 election and us finding out about it almost 10 years later as Trump becomes president-for-life.
NEW: Jeffrey Epstein said in emails that he had been advising the Russian government on how to deal with Donald Trump, one of several cases in which he wielded his connections to try to influence the course of foreign affairs. w @nahaltoosi

Trump used executive orders to attack voting machines, mail-in and absentee voting, and has pardoned 77 people involved in trying to overturn the 2020 election. This continues to push election denier ideology to be echoed with state-level compliance.

This weekend’s strange (and obviously very anecdotal) evidence of what I’m told by Republicans is a great economy: a single roll of electrical tape cost me more than three dollars.

I was shocked!

Even the “straight news” side of Fox is staffed by Trump fans. Baier and his son often golf with Trump. A recent appearance by Baier on Sean Hannity’s radio show makes clear the Fox anchor and the president are quite close.
“.. Video that was posted Friday night also shows him seated at a banquet table next to one of his occasional golf buddies, Fox News anchor Bret Baier.”

They’re so close to figuring it out but just can’t get there.
Scalise: "Ronald Reagan said it best: Freedom is only one generation away from extinction if we don't fight to defend it. Those words of Reagan's still ring true today."

Seems like we should be questioning the cognitive health or at least the eyesight of a guy who struggles to read a teleprompter.
Trump: "For generations Miami has been a haven for those fleeing communist tyranny in South Africa. I mean, if you take a look at what's going on in parts of South Africa. Look at South Africa, what's going on. Look at South America, what's going on. You know, we have a G20 meeting in South Africa."

Democrats won by 25 points in races for two spots on Georgia’s public utilities board. Either voters are very into public utilities or they’re so sick of Trump and Republicans they’ll vote for any Democrat on the ticket. Probably a bit of both. Today’s Doom:

Until he’s safely out of office — and probably for some time after, God willing — Trump is always on the ballot. That’s the price he pays for making everything about him.
I got bad news for Trump about every election going forward from now until the end of time

Conservatives in 2025: mean words are literally violence bsky.app/profile/robe...
From Bovino's deposition: (1) he calls protestors "violent" if they articulate views hostile to ICE, even if no violence is manifested; (2) he instructs his forces to attack and arrest protestors who express "hyperbolic comments," which is to say, criticism of ICE and Bovino.

Indiscriminately firing tear gas with no apparent warning (in violation of a federal court order) because they got called out in one of Chicago’s most affluent neighborhoods.

Chicago continues to resist and I couldn’t be prouder.
This is located in the Lakeview neighborhood of Chicago, close to Fullerton and Sheffield. It's a densely populated area near DePaul University. I'm pleased to see the community standing up against these despicable individuals.

Give it a couple months and “AI or something” will be to blame for widespread election fraud.
Trump: "They cheated on a commercial. Ronald Reagan loved tariffs and they said he didn't. And I guess it was AI or something. They cheated badly. Canada got caught cheating on a commercial. Can you believe it?"
