This is so inspiring. After the grimness of yesterday in the capital city, watch a celebration of authentic British identities in an institutional setting that can adapt and change for the common good. Brilliant prep for the start of @ioe.bsky.social PGCE tomorrow. youtube.com/watch?v=GxLF...

Incidentally, I think part of the reason so many buy into the “Invictus”, poetry chanting, national anthem nonsense is because too often schools (or leadership teams) are so focused on getting results that the purpose is lost. Much as I enjoy the holidays, I’m ready for a new school year. But I dread starting it with interminable exams analysis & unveiling of new policies & mission statements. Imagine a world where teachers were shown this from Akala at INSET to inspire them for the task ahead.

One of the joys of being a History teacher on holiday is getting to read some History. One of the disadvantages is when something like this genuinely challenges your thinking about a topic you have taught for a while. And then you realise you’re going to have to re-plan a whole series lessons 🤦🏻😂

Really interesting session. I maintain that your book is essential reading for anyone wanting to learn how to plan excellent, thoughtful sequences. Your session epitomised that.

I asked the one high ranking policeman I saw on 5th Ave why there were so few police. He said “We did not expect anything like this. Don’t tell anyone but I’ve only got 44 officers out here — and it’s a great crowd, great event, no incidents.”
I have never seen anything like this in NYC. 5th Ave covered from 42nd St well to the 20s. Nobody prepared for this volume. Volunteers are holding the traffic on all the side streets. No police in sight. #handsoff
