Typhoon exposes ancient shipwreck off historic Vietnam trading port.

Severe coastal erosion caused by Typhoon Kalmaegi exposed a centuries-old shipwreck in Vietnam, providing a narrow window to salvage what experts say could be a historically significant find

The RIFs language is actually great. Not only does it rehire the people RIFed during the shutdown, it makes it an unequivocal Antideficiency Act violation to do ANY MORE RIFs through the duration of the CR (Jan 30)

Completely stops Trump/Vought Phase 2 for now

Would love to see this standardized

Free Palestine movement brought 40 people to shut down dialogue at a student event. They brought a weapon and used it to get to Jewish students. You may have seen the twisted versions of this story, this is the whole story. This is a hate movement.

This is the correct take.
The fact that the BBC has made serious culpable errors does not negate the point that there is a real and concerted right-wing media campaign to destroy it. Both points can be true at the same time and the campaign would not end even if the errors did.

with the end of the shutdown looming, here's my look for @wired.com into what life has been like for EPA employees over the past five weeks: little to no heads up about who was getting furloughed next, important projects getting put on the back burner while deregulation moves forward:
The EPA Is in Chaos
“We learn who is furloughed when we send an email to someone and get the out-of-office message,” one employee tells WIRED.

I know everyone is rightfully worked up over this govt funding bill but @timstarks.bsky.social and I found the cyber angle: if passed, CISA 2015 would go back into law until Jan 30 2026 cyberscoop.com/cisa-2015-sh...
Cyber information sharing law would get extension under shutdown deal bill
The Cybersecurity and Information Sharing Act of 2015 would go from expired to extended through Jan. 30.

This question is being asked because Trump cannot pardon state crimes. What he issued tonight was messaging, not a true pardon.
Everyone’s like “so what do these pardons DO??” and honestly I’d say it probably has more to do with this than anything substantive, at least for now

It’s a communicative pardon
Notably, this pardon comes just days ahead of a Nov. 14 deadline for the Prosecuting Attorneys’ Council of Georgia to appoint a replacement prosecutor for Fani Willis, who was disqualified from pursuing the case.

If you are claiming that Dems just voted for more money for ICE to terrorize communities, you are incredibly stupid or entirely disingenuous.
What utter bullshit. ICE operations terrorizing communities have been unaffected by the shutdown. Meanwhile, the government-provided services and tools that help immigrants keep their legal status current HAVE been affected.

I think a lot of people are thinking it's just "none of the RIFs get to stay and no more illegal RIFs", rather than the "no RIFs, even if otherwise permissible by law, and if you try to do it it's a felony criminal offense under the Anti-Deficiency Act" that this actually is.

I don't think the average bluesky poster has the slightest clue how much more damage Republicans can do in terms of dismantling the country if the govt stays shut down. With no one in the building to watch what's going on, they are free to take everything apart, nary a whistle blower to be found.

People are starting to realize that their One Weird Trick isn't going to fix what's ailing the country, but rather than try something more productive, they're getting angry at elected officials who know that there is no secret button that will take them to before the 2024 election.
