As a former securities fraud lawyer, I can tell you this is 💯 true. Elon could have been stopped years ago if only we treated white collar crime like other crimes.
Elon Musk has been a walking SEC violation for a decade and no one cared. The entire Trump era could have been avoided if the US took white collar crime anywhere near as seriously as it does low level drug crime.

18F software engineers took a pay cut to work there, because government pay was so much less than what a software engineer could earn in the private sector. I’ve met some of them, and know they wanted to serve. And, 18F had an excellent mission that made a real difference.
