Relying on ChatGPT to teach you about a topic leaves you with shallower knowledge than Googling and reading about it, according to new research that compared what more than 10,000 people knew after using one method or the other.

I had wondered what some teachers/librarians meant when they say you should try to teach ethical use of genAI. Because, to me, it’s all pretty much unethical.
Turns out they mean citing the use of it. Disclosing how and what tools were used = ethical 🙃

That’s…ugh

No no no begs every archivist. You are never going to be able to find anything. Please don’t start using emojis in file names. Who asked for this? What fresh hell is next?

“When the same stories that are targeted ideologically also become the ones flagged algorithmically, the result is not neutrality. It is amplified harm.”
AI is now being used to “flag” school library books.
The new CLCD tool, Class-Shelf Plus v3, may speed up censorship under the guise of efficiency.

This development should alarm every librarian and educator. #TLSky #EduSkyAi #libraries #censorship open.substack.com/pub/aischool...

I've been thinking on this for a while, and instead of a holiday season sale, Bonedust Press will instead dedicate 10% of all direct sales to the San Diego Food Bank.

Times are tough and since I have to do the marketing song and dance anyway, I'd like to accomplish a little good with it.
#booksky
Shop small for the holidays, support independent publishing, and do some good!

From now until Dec. 31, we will donate 10% of every single direct sale from our site to local food banks.

Treat yourself to our debut title, The Traitor & The Wretch, or gift it to a friend!

If you aren't seeing skeets from some of your fave people, they might have been labeled "Rude" by bsky mods. Idk what they are thinking, I don't need a mommy to tell me who to be buddies with. Anyway, go into Settings > moderation > bluesky moderation (advanced) and turn Rude off.

THEYRE CLOSING THE PUBLIC LIBRARIES IN THIS SYSTEM TO BAN BOOKS BECAUSE THE SECRETARY OF STATE TOLD THEM TO.

This is a big fucking story. They won't be the only ones.
The Rutherford County Library System in Tennessee is temporarily closing two branches in order to remove books from them.

Why? Because the Secretary of State told them to do it, citing laws and Executive Orders that undermine the Constititon.

Just saw a study where in the references they cited a webpage, they linked not only to a page that doesn’t exist but left the /?utm_source=chatgpt.com bit on it 🤦 this was their final report, archived in the IR

So embarrassing for them but also now the whole report is questionable imo 😬

When you use a genAI image during your presentation I can’t focus on your work at all
- Too irritated about the image
- makes me question what other parts of your presentation you built based on exploited/stolen works
- do I trust your thought/decision process at all now since it led you to genAI

This a million times. Denial never really changes, just shifts to update its language with new discoveries and new terminology. We see the same with evolution and HIV denial. Plus, people were sick of antivaxxers even in the late 1800s.
