It's a wonderful feeling when 5 years of research and writing comes to fruition. The thought that immediately follows is that the work is not done because you now have to promote it. I am grateful for all the help I received along the way.

'Arenig, Sunset.' In 1911, James Dickson Innes accompanied Derwent Lees and Augustus John to Arenig Fawr, a mountain in Snowdonia, North Wales; it was soon after he had returned from the south of France. In this work, he has painted Wales as if he were still in the Mediterranean.

A delightful story to bring a ray of joy into your day, especially if you #garden (or try).
When the Globe asked for experts for our Mastering It summer series, I instantly thought of Mary Reid. She owns Green Thumb Garden Centre in Ottawa, and watching her work though plant questions or problems with customers is like watching a magic trick. www.theglobeandmail.com/life/article...

So excited for my friend Madelaine Drohan. Time to pre-order her new book about the last American who tried to annex Canada.✍️ 👇
My new book, He Did Not Conquer: Benjamin Franklin’s Failure to Annex Canada, is out for pre-orders. It felt like a niche topic when I began the research a few years ago. Trump’s threats to make Canada the 51st state make the book relevant and illuminating for a wide audience.

Headline/chyron if this were happening in a foreign country: "Far right president calls for arrest of opposition party provincial governor, raising further questions about democracy & the rule of law"

JUST NOW — Trump says Homan should arrest Governor Gavin Newsom: "I would do it if I were Tom. I think it's great. I think it would be a great thing.”

Just to be clear, Governor Newsom hasn't broken any laws. If this line is crossed, and the President has a sitting governor arrested, then the choice for Democratic leaders, senior military officers and federal employees becomes one of accepting dictatorship or taking drastic action.

1. Florida banned cities from lighting up bridges rainbow colors for Pride.

So the people of Jacksonville did it themselves using flashlights and gels.

They opened the drawbridge to block them.

So they marched to a different bridge.
