Correct Modes for Mourning Wear, Vogue 15 Feb 1917. Tailored suits, veiled hats, dinner dresses. The suits and dresses could be ordered in all black or all white materials. White mourning was beginning to be considered less eccentric and better for morale than all black.

'A Shady Spot,' was one of four paintings George Clausen exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1901. It was painted when he living in Widdington, near Newport in Essex, an area surrounded by large oaks, which he often painted and featured in his lectures at the Royal Academy.

For #ootd's #ValentinesDay theme, we have this 1920 Bonwit Teller pink chiffon tea gown with metallic flowers on its dropped waist. Bonwit Teller was a retailer that sold original designs and copies of Parisian fashions, which #museumatFIT speculates this was. #Fashionhistory

#FridayFrocks #Embroidery - Stomacher, c.1725–35. Silver embroidered background with a flower pattern in colourful silks and gold thread. Stomachers were decorative panels worn at the front of a bodice to fill in the central gap between the two sides of a dress.

Today is #NationalSweaterDay so let's enjoy 'The Fair-Isle Jumper' painted by #Orkney-born artist Stanley Cursiter in 1923.

Stanley Cursiter (1887-1976) was Keeper of the National Galleries of Scotland from 1930-1948 and was appointed the King's Painter and Limner in Scotland.
