Get more grading done. Not in the sense that itself is pleasant, but having it not be hanging over my head would be kinda nice.

Q4: What can you do in the next week to make your life a little more pleasant? #WeeknightWriters

#weeknightwriters Had a relatively good teaching week. Currently listening to my son work on his audition recordings for music scholarships and I love listening to him play. And writing progress!
Q3: Let's cheer things up a bit! What has brought you joy in the past week? Remember, no joy is too small! #WeeknightWriters

Not this week, thank goodness. Cracked the wall between me and outline and I’m really liking the creepy-silly-sweet-weird vibes that are coming through.

Unless someone wants to do my grading for me…?

I’m doing okay. I’ve been too busy for my brain to obsess about the world, so… yay? Getting better sleep at least, which has helped my mood.

Late to the party, but I am Julia, working now on the “what happens when the BBEG takes an extended vacation” WIP. I have a starting outline now! Hoping to start writing tonight! #weeknightwriters

I have spent my entire adult life being lectured by Republican politicians and conservative legal movement types about how important it is to preserve the sacred constitutional right to self-defense of *specifically this person* and then secret police murdered him in the street
Minneapolis police chief Brian O'Hara says that the victim was a 37-year-old white man and US citizen with no criminal record and that he was a legally permitted gun owner.

You’re doing it. Thank you. Best writing community I’ve ever been a part of.

Also, really excited for the editing roundtable in March. I want to get back to Ania’s story.

Q5: What can we, the Weeknight Writers community, do in the next week to make your life a little more pleasant? #WeeknightWriters

Keep up with grading. Not having that particular axe blade hanging over my head makes everything more cheerful. And it keeps my evenings freer. More writing time!

Catch up on some projects with friends that I’ve let lag for too long. They deserve better from me. #weeknightwriters

Hm. A nice day of errands with the wife. A new shirt. A fascinating rabbit hole doing research for a class lecture. Students who actually ask questions. Lots of little things! #weeknightwriters

Same thing I always struggle with at the start of a new project. Developing the main character. Or maybe more convincing myself that I develop my main character best when I start writing, now that I think about it. Huh. Maybe I just talked myself around my problem. 🤦‍♀️ #weeknightwriters

Oh, you know. New semester. World falling apart. But some good things on a personal level. I wish the writing was going better, but I’m sure it’ll come eventually. #weeknightwriters

Hi, I’m Julia and I’m working on outlining a (gasp) new WIP that I summarize as “what happens when BBEG decides it’s time for an extended vacation?”. It’s been kicking around my head for years and years. Now it’s finally time to write it. Sadly, the outlining is going slooooooowly. #weeknightwriters

I started listening to audiobooks on my drive to & from work about 5 years ago. I've had to pull over due to tears in my eyes for 2 books in that time. The first was Becky Chambers' To Be Taught If Fortunate. Today I added @alixeharrow.bsky.social's The Everlasting. I will now rave about it.

RT this with your home river. Tough one. There are a lot near where I grew up. Spent a lot of summer days on the Columbia River around here though.

Have a finished draft of my current WIP.
Have a new WIP outlined to take into #firstdraftfall 2026.
Submit a short story.

That… might be a lot under the circumstances.

Q3: Do you have any writing goals for 2026? If so, share them here! #WeeknightWriters
January 9, 2026 at 12:57 AM
A few things I think. Starting the hard work of knowing myself better is big, but the biggest is finishing(-ish) my first ever novel draft after stalling out several times on this particular one over the last 3-4 years. Knowing I have the ability to do it is a huge accomplishment. #weeknightwriters
Q2: What was your biggest victory last year? And yes, surviving counts #WeeknightWriters
January 9, 2026 at 12:45 AM
#weeknightwriters Oof, that's a loaded question. Gonna stick to writing struggles because otherwise... yeesh. I had a hugely successful summer (thank you, summer break) but hit the Midpoint Wall hard. Took months to realize I could move past it. Took a few fits and starts, but I broke through.
Q1: What was your biggest struggle last year? Feel free to share non-writing struggles #WeeknightWriters
January 9, 2026 at 12:19 AM
Hi #weeknightwriters, I'm Julia. Thanks to the unwholesome (complimentary) influence of friends and family, my WIP is now either a duology or a trilogy, but the zero draft is done so now it's editing time! Do I know how to do that? No! Have I ever done it before? Also no! Am I flailing? Yes!
