I live in Minnesota. I’m not from here but chose it, in part because of the diversity, the supportive environment for kids and families, and the overall sense of community that makes those sides work well.

Now it’s all under attack by the federal government and the President of the United States.

Read the full story if you have a couple minutes.
MPR News has identified at least 56 habeas corpus petitions filed in the state in December by immigrants who have been detained. The detainees who filed habeas petitions represent only a fraction, less than five percent of the total number of people confirmed arrested in the state. (11)

How do we fix this?
@smerelman, how do we as consumers patronize work that matters? because I think we all know we want the work to matter. Even if we're all attracted to profitable clickbait. Whether you like it or not, you're steering this ship, Steve. Whether toward revival, or the gutter.
There is a culture of immediate gratification that isn't satisfied by rigorous fact-gathering and editing. The internet runs fast and shallow.

I feel this as well. It is real.
Lately I can’t stop thinking about how much art that’s catching interest is about not being able to articulate a response to overwhelming circumstance. Movies, books, music.
People are not okay

No explanation needed to enjoy this. Hahaha!
its the sexiest christopher walken has ever been in a movie

I've been feeling this way for years. It is real.
It’s going to be really interesting when we’re forced to look back at this time in politics and culture, figuring out how much of it was based on lies people told on the internet

Dear listeners,

When the days feel narrow and the noise gets loud, try a song.
Not as escape — as evidence.
Someone, somewhere, once felt this too and made something that still holds.

If hope is hiding, it often hums first.

Have you done anything to respond to this, as a friend, a neighbor, a colleague, anything? I have "witnessed" at two raids, but beyond that, nothing. Oh and wrote a letter to our governor pleading for strong leadership and for whatever he can do for us.

***and I wish I could do more***
About a half-hour ago, ICE kidnapped a man from the CVS by my house. His pregnant partner was in the car waiting for him. A dozen responders showed up, but we were too late to help

Happy Holidays, Everyone!

And may each day be another 13,000 pages of wonderfully redacted secrets! Enigmas never die!

Thanks, Canada, for sharing with Americans fact-checked reporting and footage on CECOT that US journalists, caving to political corruption and pressure, tried to hide from us.

You are a friend to the people of America.

and let us not forget to neglect independent apolitical departments are now like politically loyal lapdogs as well
It’s so bad for America rn and I don’t say this in a doom kinda way. But look around.

ICE running around like GI Joe. News is being halted and altered in real time. They own just about all the social media and TV stations…

100%
The vibe in the rapid response networks is heavy but determined. If you have brown neighbors you haven’t checked on, open a line of communication with them SOON. Drop by with cookies this week. They really need you.

All I have to say is he relocates shitstorms about as well as he redirects hurricanes with that sharpie. And both storm types still have the power to hurt people that are vulnerable and unprotected by our government.

In the somber wake of our loss of Rob Reiner, we've been revisiting some of his classics, and spotted @kenwhite.bsky.social running a total sham of a wedding. The resemblance is uncanny!

As a chronically disappointed Minnesota fan, I'd enjoy seeing the Seahawks get a Superbowl win with Sam Darnold slinging the rock. It will give us all one more tragic loss to complain about.

As goes our eternal loving grief for the Vikings. Great game 12ers!

This is a terrific story full of danger, piracy, kidnapping, and most of all, true love. No kissing, Fred Savage!

And I’ll attempt to tell it from the perspective of the Minnesotans. 1/8

This is awesome. This dude, Shane, a colorist spreads love for artists, by relentlessly sharing their work so hard that their name trends at the top of an entire social app.

That's so punk rock.
I am neither. I've been doing stuff like this for artists I like since the early aughts. I'm a comic colorist.

MINNEAPOLIS: “We kept yelling ‘she’s pregnant! She’s pregnant!’ — they put their knees in her… the handcuffed woman was dragged on the ground…”

Lawless.

The pair of agents restrained a woman on the ground as a crowd gathered near Pillsbury and Lake Street. Videos show them dragging her on the road towards their vehicle as protesters hurled insults and snowballs. The agents eventually left her in the street as they hurried to their vehicle.

My one defining memory of seeing this in theatres opening weekend was the incredible roar of applause from the audience when Inigo says “I want my father back you son of a bitch” - just about took the roof off of that auditorium…

I still *feel* that moment every time I’ve seen the film since…

Are we all the same? I feel attacked. Oops. I just overshared. I'll shut up and just gaze until I forget about this.

If you're GenX or so, Rob Reiner was basically the story teller who captured the beating heart of our generation.

We were all born "To Blathe". which could mean to blather, to bluff, or it could mean true love. It is all up to your interpretation.

Have fun stormin' the castle! & Crank it to 11

One of our Shakopee observers witnessed ICE pepper spray a baby today in Chanhassen.

(Yes. You read that right.)

The agent knew the baby was there. ICE does not make our communities safer. End Operation Metro Surge NOW!
