Late addition to this. The reason nobody gets mad about video game monsters being called AI is because the illusion of intelligence is the product. Whereas with LLMs, stolen labour is the product, and the illusion of intelligence is the cover story.
When expressing why I hate "genAI"/LLMs being referred to as "AI" (and why I hate genAI), I feel like I need to preface it with why I think David (Fassbender) in the movie Prometheus VERY OBVIOUSLY HAS A SOUL, and human arrogance is what makes it impossible for some people to even consider it. 🧵

This thread. I had some really thin times when I was in college and trying to live on $10/week in groceries. This was 1998 or so, not as little as it sounds like now. It was doable on a technical level but it sucked so hard.
On the $3/meal thing: I went through a weird period where I tried to be really frugal and would try to limit my grocery budget to $50/week. I am single and educated. It was really hard and ultimately something I gave up, because it made me miserable.

The problem is that the child porn website is owned by the richest man in the world, who no one wants to pick a fight with, and even less so now that he's aligned with the president of the U.S., himself a maniacal sex criminal. Nothing gets fixed without breaking the political power of big money
I am once again reminding you all that the UK government introduced an Online Safety Act that is effectively a porn ban on most adult porn websites, but is dithering over banning a website that is actually creating child porn.

I'm glad people are getting the Nix of Nothing books in their hands, I'm very lucky to have them fulfilled. I think getting them in the hands of people who supported the book is most important.
