TIL about a memorial ceremony in Iceland in 2019 to mark the end of a glacier, changing the place name from Okjökull to Ok (jökull = glacier). Uncompromising wording on the bronze plaque:
"This is to acknowledge that we know what is happening and what needs to be done. Only you know if we did it".

Did you know that before Nixon and Reagan, health insurance companies in America were non-profit? Yep, they screamed about "socialized medicine" and gradually shifted the focus of our entire healthcare system from public welfare to... making bucks off illness.

This is why this garbage is being pushed on us so hard. They want to kill intellectual curiosity and learning.

If Dems are in “the files,” then they should be prosecuted too. I don’t give a damn how important they are, how much money they have, or what their politics are. If they are in there, PROSECUTE THEM!!

It's not complicated. All we want is equal justice. NO ONE is above the law. ⚖️

My takeaway from every new Epstein revelation is that some powerful people victimized many powerless young women, many more knew, some actively enabled it--and we're still being told that MeToo and accountability for sexual violence have gone too far

81 years ago, FDR proposed a second Bill of Rights to guarantee every American the right to employment, healthcare, education, housing, and a living income. His words are as relevant now as they were then. Watch.

Walmart and McDonald’s are among the top employers of workers who rely on food stamps.

McDonald's CEO raked in $18.2M last year — over 1,000x the company's median employee pay.

Walmart's CEO pocketed $27.4M — 930x the company's median employee pay.

See the problem?

The average US taxpayer spends $36 a year on SNAP

You know what they spend on corporate subsidies? $670

Poor and disabled people who need food are not the problem

If you’re angry about “your money” feeding people but not angry it’s giving tax cuts to the wealthy?

You’re doing their dirty work.

I get it: it’s terrifying to admit what’s happening right now.

No one wants to believe their nation is falling into authoritarianism, that the norms they relied on in the past are no longer givens, that the can’t-happen-heres are actually happening here.

Um, I’d be willing to go out on a whim and suggest that all Americans are dependent in some way, shape, or form on the government. Every. Single. American.
Eric is a Missouri congressman.

He is quite literally dependent on the federal government for his paycheck, his housing, and his free healthcare. He’s a tax recipient.

As a friend is running the Marine Corps marathon tomorrow in honor of their cousin who didn’t make it through their depression, I thought this was worth sharing.
That is the greatest battle with depression: pulling yourself through the present despair to a place just slightly in the future where you may be surprised by joy or feel less tired or see something differently.

You deserve to experience that place.

The BBC does a nice job of comparing the Ontario government’s ad to Reagan’s speech. TL;DR: Makes it 💯 clear that the ad does not misrepresent what Reagan said.

I have one slight disagreement with this post.

There is at least one story bigger than that of a president instigating a plot to end U.S. democracy.

And that is the story that a president is instigating his *second* plot to end U.S. democracy.
